Anyone else with an iPhone 12 notice their phones over heating with CarPlay?

So my iPhone 12 pro has been over heating and turning off when using wireless charging and CarPlay. I need to take it off the mat, and hold it to the vent for a while to cook it off. It stays hot though using CarPlay. Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't have that issue (no charging pad for me) but I recently had my iphone XS staying hot and insta-draining battery for two days. I did a hard reset and it fixed the issue. Not sure that will help you, but worth a shot.

I have a 12 Pro now and my non-charging connections to CarPlay don't cause any issues.

What iOS version are you running? There have been several issues with 14.1 and a 14.2 version is pending.

My Xs Max gets warm on the charging pad but doesn’t overheat. I’m holding off on upgrading as long as I can (But need to upgrade to 14 to retain work access in a few weeks)

That would happen with my iPhone X. I bought an iPhone 11 Pro and no issue even on a 14 hour drive.

It could be the charger, or the way the iOS interacts with the charging.

Google iOS 14 problems to see what others are experiencing.

I would upgrade to 14.2 when it is released (assuming it is not worse).

Interesting, it very well could be.

I don't use the charging mat in the car, it's too slow to be honest.

Exactly, doesn't even charge when using carplay. Basically just "maintains" best I can tell.

Same here. Granted, I am usually streaming music via Bluetooth when it is in the tray but it should at least give me some charge for all that heat!

I'll have a 12 pro max next week. See what happens.
None of my iPhones to date have had heat issues with wireless charging.

I don't use a case or anything, always a naked phone. I wonder if that matters.

that may be true, but I would bet you are not using apple car play nor navigation while its on the nightstand.

To be clear, it overheated while streaming music, using waze, and wireless charging. I don't have a case either.

exactly. Waze and streaming takes a lot of processing power: which creates heat. Add to that the heat of inductive charging and the phone will overheat.

What's the point of CarPlay then....if not for GPS and music...

this is a red herring. streaming music doesn't tax the phone. waze itself doesn't tax the phone, having the screen on does. that's why when you use waze on your phone on a mount (meaning you're using the phone's screen as the nav screen), then it gets warm.

again, when i use waze and stream music and my phone is *not* on the charger, it doesn't heat up. when i use that charger, it gets concerningly hot. happened on both my 11 and my 12, and doesn't happen on any normal inductive charger.

it's the charger. maybe there's some software update coming on the phone that'll make things better, but my bet is it's the charger.

Yea I agree. My screen isn't on in the car at all. Although, I did notice when I had it plugged in, streaming music, waze, screen off, not on charger, it also gets very hot.

I honestly think a lot of it is CarPlay. I just did the iOS 14.2 last night so maybe that will help.

Interesting news. I'm going to buy iPhone 12 Pro. Being on a budget, I found an additional source of income. I'm not a big fan of loans, so I decided that it was a better idea. Now I found this thread and it turned out that this phone can overheat. iPhone 12 is known to be one of the best phones today, I didn't even think there might be such a problem. Honestly, I have doubts now.
