Dinan F97 X3M / F98 X4M Resonator Delete Kit / X-Pipe

Part Number: D660-0087

Applications:
  • 2020-2022 F97 X3M
  • 2020-2022 F97 X3M Competition
  • 2020-2022 F98 X4M
  • 2020-2022 F98 X4M Competition

Product Page(s) / Pricing: dinan.info/F97-F98-RDK

Release Date: Available Now!

Description: The Dinan Resonator Delete Kit for the F97 X3M and F98 X4M introduces a more aggressive tone and an increase in volume over the stock system. Coupled with the associated Dinan exhaust, the sound is further enhanced into a smoother, fuller and more aggressive note that is befitting of the performance SAV.

The offering removes the hydro-formed factory resonated section and replaces it with 70mm T304 stainless steel tubing for freer flowing capabilities. In place of the factory resonator itself, Dinan incorporates a beautifully crafted X-pipe made from mandrel-bent tubing for minimum restriction, unlike stamped X-pipes, which are commonplace in the market. This sophisticated 'X' is not only the focal point of the system in terms of aesthetics but also the star when it comes to the effects on the sound. Promoting even flow to both banks of tips, the 'X' removes unwanted nuances in sound caused by uneven exhaust flow that is often present with stock systems.

Features/Benefits:
  • Louder, smoother and fuller sound.
  • Deletes resonator between catalyst and rear muffler for increased volume.
  • Includes X-pipe crossover made from mandrel bent tubing to promote even flow with minimum restriction.
  • Lighter than stock (OEM: 10 lbs. vs. Dinan: 8 lbs.)
  • 2.75" (70mm) tubing replaces stock hydro-formed piping.
  • 100% 304 stainless steel construction with a brushed finish.
  • Easy bolt-on installation with included mounting hardware.

I've been waiting for a reasonably priced X-pipe to be constructed. Don't get me wrong, I like the deep sound of a nice smooth H-pipe. But in the upper RPM range the X-pipe has a much smoother & more refined warm sound.

Secondary CAT's themselves are not touched. Our product line will never modify/remove a CAT as the goal is to retain legal compliance (emissions included). We do require the removal of a bracket that is attached to one of the secondary cats as the new pipe needs to extend past it in order to get to a spot in the pipe (2" past the weld) that is actually round and straight for a long enough section that can be clamped without leaks. BMW absolutely loves to hydroform their pipes now and nearly all of the pipe in that section are this way which makes cut points very specific and limited in location.

Sorry meant bracket not the cat itself. Cool…glad there's a good reason for it 👍

So this is a 100% bolt on replacement? No cutting or welding just new brackets.. Correct?

No, not 100% bolt-on. Would still require some basic cutting. Every BMW exhaust for the last few generations has required cutting as the OE systems are ALL a single piece from the cat(s) back. Full installation instructions can be found on the product page or directly linked HERE so you can see exactly what installation would entail.

I'm assuming the video (which was very well done and sounded amazing) was all in Sport/Sport+ mode? I had an unresonated midpipe and Dinan axleback on my M4 which was incredible, and in Sport/Sport+ it sounded like that.

But it was barely louder than stock in comfort mode. Is that true for this setup? Assuming it's all Dinan: Dinan X-pipe for resonator delete, and Dinan axleback/muffler.

I like that I can make it loud when I want to, but having a really subdued volume / aggressiveness for comfort was key for me. I don't want loud all the time.

Yeah video is entirely done in sport/sport+. As far sound in comfort mode goes -- its definitely a hair louder with the Dinan config vs. stock but the change is more in tone then anything. The Dinan config will be substantially deeper / grumbly than stock even though overall volume isn't increased a bunch.

Right, ok we're good to go then. Great to hear… no pun intended.

I sure wish Dinan would offer this for the X6M50i. We can't even get them to look at our vehicles unless you want to buy their gas and break peddle set. LOL

It's all about ROI -- if we thought we could gaurantee going through 50 or so every 60 days to make the minimum order quantities of raw material in addition to other capital investments worthwhile then it would be in the queue for future development. As is, we haven't seen many requests/demand for even a tune, let alone hard parts for the platform.

I'm sure it's difficult enough to find tuner/mod demand for a 4,500lb x3m compact crossover let alone a 5,500 pound x5/6m.

X3M is an enthusiast car to begin with (even if it is an SUV) so demand on it is pretty strong out of the gate, not M2/M3/M4 levels, but pretty good. Volume is also a consideration -- X3's are plentiful.

None that my ears can perceive anywhere but sensitivity to drone varies per person quite a bit. That said, the most sensitive individual to drone in the office never complained or noted anything so I feel pretty confident in saying there isn't one.
