Silly question but what’s the advantage of this say over coding the car to start in Sports Ind?
If you prefer the comfort settings you can code all by the engine to be in comfort?! That’s if I’m right in thinking on Sports or Sports Plus the valve is always open?! |

Since disabling ASD I know from experience now that the increase in exhaust volume when switching to Sport+ at idle is 100% artificial from the ASD system and nothing to do with the flap. |

Can't say for sure.
The docs state it's a noise-reduction system, not a performance system. It only says that the flap position is calculated from a combination of driving speed, engine speed and load - and that it is closed when idle or close to idle. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...lap-2/Im2GgsKi |

Did you try pulling the F208 fuse and leave the ASD fuse in first to see how it sounds? Or were you in general not a fan of ASD and wanted that off regardless? I personally don't mind ASD and like the sounds I've been hearing in the cabin so far. |

I can assure you that the valve is dependent with the driving mode.(you can ear it when you switch between the diffrent driving modes ) and it is on/off valve. Eco : closed comfort : closed Sport individual : open (even if it is setup all in comfort, so you can drive your car in comfort mode but with open valve. Spot/sport+: open. Another thing has to be said, the opening of the valve is not depedant with the revs. Valve with remain closed during the cold start and will open when it is finished (30s) |

Looking at the electronics and the BMW delete plug, I don't believe the valve is simply open or closed and the flap is variable. Although you may hear cracks and pops in Sport Mode, that doesn't mean the valve is all the way open. In addition, three was good documentation posted in this thread on the valve and its function. Those that have not performed a flap mod can experiment on what happens in Sport Mode during idle, you can see the valve position from the tailpipe with a flashlight.

My wife was just going to work and I happened to be near the back of her car when she started it, from cold (in comfort mode). It is very noisy for first 30 seconds after startup - both exhaust outlets were working from the second that car started up. She drove away before the sound got quieter - so do not know if the valve subsequently closed and reverted to right hand pipe only. It’s a warmish day here - outside temperature is about 24 degrees C (don’t know if outside temperature affects the exhaust flap position) I plan to remove fuse 203 when car is cold and before it is next started, to see if I can get both sides of exhaust to stay open all the time. Cheers Steve |

So finally got round to pulling fuse 203 today. Car was cold Pulled fuse 203 Started engine - both sides of exhaust were working during the startup noisy phase. After 30 seconds or so, car settled to quieter idle Exhaust was still coming out of both sides Replaced trim around fuse box Total time - less than 5 minutes Job done! Cheers Steve |

Did you also pull the fuse for ASD?

I pulled fuses 218 and 203 this afternoon. I started the car up and both sides of the exhaust were working, I then waited for it to drop down below the 1k RPM mark and both sides continued to work. I didn't get a chance to drive it around yet so we'll see how it goes on this afternoon's commute.
This will be the first time driving it without ASD as well so I'm curious to see if I notice much of a difference or not. Personally, I never had much of an issue with ASD but since others on here have commented that it sounds much better without it, I figured I might as well pull the fuse while I was in there. |
