Drilled rotors for m40i with M-Sport brakes?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for drilled rotors (front + rear) for my M40i with M-Sport brakes. I mainly want a better look, and if I can get better heat management, that would be a plus.

Has anyone here tried the rotors from ECS Tuning? https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...4116860911-xs/

Or can you guys please recommend some other options?

Thanks!

No

I went with Power Stop ceramics

Akebono did not have both front/rear for my car at the time; not sure if they do now

In hindsight I would’ve gone with one of the EBC options but the PS’s have been fine thus far

You mentioned doing this for aesthetics. Here's a good summary of some pros/cons with advice for a daily driver, albeit written by a supplier.

At some point I’m swapping for some ceramic pads just because I like the low dust. How are the Power Stop pads treating you?

Sadly, I don’t flog my car hard enough to need anything better. It’s actually difficult to do here in Honolulu; empty roadways are pretty much nonexistent other than in the hours I’m typically sleeping

If I ever felt that they were inadequate then I’d go with EBC’s (unless Akebono is now making pads for both front and rear)

No different than your average roadway here in the SF Bay Area. As long as it is about as good as stock is fine by me. I really just want cleaner looking wheels 😂

Swapped my '24 G02 brakes to Power Stop from Rock Auto at 740 mi and using the OEM Rotors. I had the brakes installed professionally by my mechanic since my back is out of whack. No squealing, No rumbles. Smooth all the way. Hope this helps.

Perfect! And do your wheels stay clean longer now?

Thanks! BTW, please stay away from R1Concepts rotors. Several clients had problems with them.

What I meant with "mainly aesthetics" is that since I won't be installing a larger rotor (395 or so), I won't feel a considerably better braking.

I would also love to install a Brembo 6-piston BBK (https://www.vividracing.com/Brembo-G...153125553.html), but that could probably be overkill in my situation.

If I stay with the same size rotors but drilled/slotted, and harder pads, I could probably feel a better bite or hopefully some better heat management, but being honest, aesthetics will be the main factor.

I had EBC yellowstuff on my previous X1, and I really liked them. However, I don't quite understand why greenstuff seems like a better compound, according to the statistics on their website.

Greenstuff has better friction, better fade resistance, and better cold bite (this is reasonable considering yellowstuff starts getting better once hot).

Thanks for that ! I was just looking at the R1Concepts on Amazon. I don’t have M sport brakes and there kits looked reasonably priced . I was wondering if anyone else on the forum has changed out there rotors with standard brakes for the drilled & slotted rotors and if so which brand did you use ?

To clarify, my post was not an endorsement of R1 in any way. I have no knowledge of them. But, they did seem to have a reasonable post about the upside/downside of drilled, slotted, vented rotors that would apply generally.

Take a look at the opinions on Google Maps about R1 concepts rotors: https://maps.app.goo.gl/PEbGmhbqxZDj6VfX8

After reading so many complaints, I don't feel confident about their products.

Blue is a full track pad and won't work unless hot.
Yellow is Essentially a street/track pad, ok when cold, great when hot but will eat through the rotors and wear fast, super dusty....green is everyday semi metallic and red is everyday but a ceramic lowest dust

You want rotors..I'll show you the stinking rotors...I did purchased 2 piece rotors from ECS/Turner Motorsposrts earlier this year....Bad idea. Ive been dealing with BS for about over a month now and still waiting for a refund.

Anyway with a set of stainless steel lines coming in from Goodridge and these 2 piece rotors from Paragon, I'll be ready for the track...

Thanks for sharing, and I'm sorry for all you've been through. I will stay away from ECS rotors.

Talking about Paragon rotors, did you keep the same size?

Talking about Goodridge SS, I installed them on my previous X1, although they didn't come with the proper rubber to hold them in place on the wheel hub (please see attached pictures for reference); they came with a generic rubber piece instead.

I want to order them for the X3 (https://www.goodridge.co.uk/collecti...w-387-hp-09-19), so please share your thoughts once you receive them.

Thanks!
