How long do codes stay for?

Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I have a couple engine codes saved from when I had an issue installing my JB4. There are none currently, but in the saved code log they are there. Do these fall off after time? Is there a way to remove them? I hit delete codes and it only deletes current codes, no past codes.
