Radio/ media volume issue

Apologies if this is already covered, I’ve had a good look but could not find anything.

I’ve had the car 3 weeks and I’m still getting grips with the tech, but since day one and only occasionally, the volume of the radio drops to zero. It happens listening to the radio, connected drive and car play. It usually happens 5/10 mins after switching on. My hands are on the wheel, driving in a straight line with no one else in the car, and the volume just drops.

Anyone had something similar?

My f25 used to randomly change radio stations when I turned the wheel from time to time. Then the dashboard would go totally dark while driving the car, turned out it was a harness short in the drivers footwell. My point in telling you this, could be anything...

If you have a smart phone connected, and it receives an email or text, when that happens, the volume will momentarily drop but should return to normal by itself quickly.

Do you have gesture control? And are you ever waving your hands near the CID screen or IHKA area on the dash? Sometimes gesture control can pick up hand signals. The two fingers forward is a default setting for pausing the sound.

This was my first thought, but it’s not the issue. I made sure I headed for a straight bit of road so I could discount my movement.

I’ll try leaving the phone at home, but whatever is happening, the sound doesn’t return if it is a text etc..👍

I'm not sure if there is any correlation but when I first drove my then new 2020 X3, the Pandora app on my paired cell phone began playing through the car's radio. Since I don't have an unlimited data plan I didn't want it to do that. The only solution (I was told) was to "offload" Pandora from my iphone...that worked.....so weird.

Ok, it’s definitely being muted when I receive a message, but it stays muted and I have change the volume. Have I missed something in the settings?

Might actually be your phone. Have you tried with just radio or another phone? See if it does the same thing.
