Extended Warranty Cost

Has anyone had a BMW extended warranty quote yet? And if so, how much was it?

Many thanks

This is something I am interested in too as I will be keeping mine past the 3 years in March.

Hopefully we can get some quotes from people who are approaching 3 years, even if they are not keeping their vehicles.

Jaguar (Car Care Plan at the time) used to send me a warranty brochure and a quote each year so I knew in advance what the price would be. Started at £750 in 2018 and ended up at £1,050 in 2021.

Porsche seem very up front and have set prices for extending the existing warranty or taking out a stand-alone warranty after completing a 111 point check. They don't seem to have pricing for the Macan EV yet which is understandable being a new model but £880 for the regular Macan seems reasonable and this applies up to 125,000 miles/12 years. They also give the option for 1,2 or 3 years.

Scroll down for the downloads section
https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessori...rovedwarranty/

BMW?

Seems to be shrouded in mystery where you have to apply on-line for your individual quote.

Perhaps any higher mileage vehicles or those with a history of warranty claims will get £X+£Y and any low mileage/trouble free vehicles will get £X-£0.

If we can get some quotes and mileage and perhaps the rough location we can see if people are being quoted similar prices by mileage and region as your local dealer rates may be a factor.

It would also be interesting to see if there are pricing options/discounts for extending for 2 or 3 years.

Just did a quick quote based on a car for sale on AT.

71 plate September registered with 33k miles works out £765 for the year or £68/ month.

Comprehensive cover with breakdown and £100 excess. Will be cheaper with lesser cover and without breakdown. Don’t think you can extend more than a year a time.

Was that a BMW Insured Warranty?
BMW Insured Warranty, Roadside Assistance and Roadside Assistance Essential is underwritten by AWP P&C SA and is administered in the UK by AWP Assistance UK Ltd

I just tried based on a December 2021 vehicle on the BMW used website and when I put the registration number in it pops up a login screen with the following:

Please also enter your login name and PIN details, that can be found on the invitation letter we sent you.

On that basis we will be invited to login for a personal quote and it seems we cannot get BMW extended quotes for other vehicles without the invitation letter?

Yes was BMW Insured warranty. Try NK71MVY as that seems to be out of warranty and cheapest car on AT.

I have had BMW extended warranty before and when it asks for a log in usually there is an active warranty in place, the car you used has in theory still got a month warranty left.

Thanks for that. I found that vehicle on AutoTrader and plugged in the 33,713 miles it stated and I also got £765 with the default £100 excess. The only options for excess are £100 or £250 which makes it £596.

My mileage is well below that but I would be OK with £765 including breakdown as I was paying that with Jaguar 6 years ago excluding the breakdown cover. There was however no excess with that insurance.

Out of curiosity I put in my own registration (3 years expires March 2025) and got the following:

We have found an existing warranty for your car and would like to discuss what Insured Warranty options are available to you. Please call BMW Insured Warranty Services on 0345 641 9790 to speak to a member of our team who will be happy to help you.

Thanks for all your responses folks The price is slightly more than my wife's 330e which is £49 a month, with £250 excess, that had done about 33k when we took the cover out.

I presuming the High Voltage battery is covered directly by BMW for 8 years / 100,000 miles? So the extended warranty is just covering the other bits? There's a lot less to go wrong compared to the hybrids, which are a fair bit more complex mechanically.

I just had look at:
https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/insured-warranty

It looks as though a £0* excess will be an option when I get a quote towards March but that will no doubt be more than the estimated £796.

*£0 excess not available to customers whose new BMW, Approved Used BMW or BMW Insured Warranty has lapsed.

The vehicle details plugged in from AutoTrader are older than 3 years + no current warranty so that would likely explain the £0 excess not being available.

Looking at the recent issues cropping up on cars just over 3 years old, I might be tempted by the £0 excess if it is available.

Thanks for all your responses. There are a few problems cropping up with the cars, and I wouldn't want to be running mine without the warranty cover. It doesn't take much to go wrong on most modern cars before hitting a bill into £000's! My wife's 330e recently had a diff issue (it's only done about 30k miles) and that was covered under the extended warranty, otherwise it would have been a bill for around £2k.

So far I've had the following work done on mine in the past 3 years:

- Top Mounts replaced twice
- Wheel trim covers all replaced
- Battery cooling module / sensors
- Passenger seat cover
- Headlight level control arm

There are a couple of ongoing issues that I can't be bothered having looked at, but may book it in before the manufactures warranty expiries in January.

- Drivers mirror occasionally doesn't unfold when unlocked (but works on the door button every time).
- Heater occasionally blows cold air (when the car is cold inside) then reverts back to normal heating.
- Temperature related plastic creaking from the front, when manoeuvring at slow speed (suspect scuttle panel, or some other plastic trim on the front).
- Creaking rear seat when someone is in the back.

Most of these aren't EV specific and not catastrophic issues (battery to one side, but that's covered under the separate warranty anyway).

I've also noticed that when booking a BMW service online they no longer offer the 'end of warranty check'! My warranty expires at the end of January so I'll be able to get my quote shortly.

I phoned the other day and booked mine in for the MOT at the beginning of February. The dates I wanted were not available yet on the website and I also could not find the warranty check as an item to add to the appointment.

I was told they no longer offer this as a specific item but will do a vehicle check that is free of charge. Not sure what this will entail and where would BMW stand on the dealer finding things not related to the MOT that the customer has not reported?

I will phone in advance and add any issues I have and that way they will be logged a few weeks (and hopefully fixed) before the BMW 3 year warranty expires. I will be taking out the extended warranty but better to get anything you can addressed under the 3 year warranty.

I get the door mirror issue too.
Drivers door mirror sometimes doesn't unfold on unlock but works on the button.
Also the preconditioning occasionally starts working when I walk past the car on the drive with the key in my pocket!

Sytner BMW Customers: Lots of warranty choices or could we end up buying the wrong one?

For Sytner customers, there appears to be two BMW specific warranties available to us at the end of the 3 years.

BMW Insured Warranty and Sytner BMW Extended Warranty.

https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/
https://www.sytner.co.uk/bmw/service...ended-warranty

Sytner also offers the following on their used vehicles and seems very similar to the Sytner BMW Extended Warranty as far as the 20,000 miles per year + Electronic Vehicle Health Check (EVHC) check but appears to be available for 3 years, whereas the Sytner BMW Extended Warranty at the top level only mentions being available for 1 or 2 years.
https://www.sytner.co.uk/sytner-select/select-warranty

My partner went with the one year Sytner BMW Extended Warranty for her i3 as she wasn't keen on paying for a warranty anyway, and it was cheaper than the BMW Insured Warranty.

I think Sytner said this year (2nd year) that my partner could not renew it again next year which would fit in with the Sytner BMW Extended Warranty only being available for 2 years.

These warranties are not the same, despite the very similar descriptions when you are a Sytner customer. I could not seem to find a dealer specific warranty for Lookers or Stratstone after a quick look round a dealer site for each.

The BMW Insured Warranty cover is available up to 100,000 miles and is stated as being available only on an annual or rolling monthly basis. The Sytner warranties seem to be available to buy as up to 2 or 3 years at once depending on the product but only seem to be available on cars up to 5 or 6 years with a 20,000 miles annual limit.

Not 100% sure what you are meant to do or can do after 5/6 years with a Sytner warranty but there are always third party options.

Whilst I may not keep my vehicle beyond 5 years, I am prepared to pay for the BMW Insured Warranty that will cover me up to 100,000 miles which at my current mileage would be way beyond the maximum 8 years I would keep the vehicle anyway due to the battery warranty.

This will mean paying one year at a time along with likely increases, but I can take a view on this on a year by year basis.

Thanks for the info keninuk

I had the email from them yesterday and have requested some more detailed information. I only need cover for no longer than 12 months after my warranty runs out in January, as I'll be changing the car towards the end next year.

The Sytner one looks pretty good, we only use Sytner anyway and the price is very reasonable, especially with £0 excess.

The Sytner Select warranty is a different one, just for Sytner Select cars, which are generally higher mileage cars, don't have a full BMW service history or don't qualify for a manufacturer warranty.

I've not had the BMW warranty quote through yet, but I suspect it will be the same price others have had quoted.

Have a great Christmas everyone

It would not allow me to get a quote online and still won't for coverage starting 01 Mar 2025.

"We have found an existing warranty for your car and would like to discuss what Insured Warranty options are available to you. Please call BMW Insured Warranty Services on 0345 641 9790 to speak to a member of our team who will be happy to help you."

I called them just over a week ago and they gave me the following quote:

12 months £0 excess With Roadside Assistance = £752 or £76 per month

12 months £0 excess Without Roadside Assistance = £665 or £68 per month

They indicated this will remain the same until February when I want to pay for it.

NB: I do less than 5,000 miles a year.

Roadside Assistance Essential = £69 - Price shown on website. As the full Roadside Assistance is not priced, I presume it is only available with the warranty and based on my quotes for with and without is £87. I think £18 for the extras based on my quote is pretty reasonable, especially compared to what I paid the AA a few years ago for similar cover with many years loyalty discount.

The Roadside Assistance seems to be the same from new, with the BMW Insured Warranty or Styner BMW Extended Warranty as they all state the same telephone number to call from abroad.
