This was the concept, which while not beautiful at least looked less like the old Volt as designed by Daewoo.

This is the 100% electric Bolt EV. First concept was unveiled in early 2015.

Quite impressive actually. Double the range of an i3, for under $30k. BMW has some work to do. My local dealers already have a tough enough time selling their current i3 inventory.

If those preliminary numbers are close to factual it is really quite impressive actually.
With some effort I think one could get it to look a little better. A little.
Time will tell regarding reliability and actual performance.

It appears to be a great daily drive vehicle.

What I find funny after reading the Tesla forums is that all the Tesla owners are but hurt and think this is a terrible car and most likely will not sell at all. You would think they would be happy since Elon's goal of transitioning into a more sustainable form of transportation is coming true but instead they seem to hate anything that encroaches on their EVs.

It looks like a shit box. The i3 looks like a shit box that costs way more with less range = this new volt is less of a shit box than an i3.

I guess the i3 is "typical BMW."

I'm kinda with you there, but I have a lot more faith that GM will actually get the Bolt to market on schedule and at near the price they intend than Tesla will get the Model 3 to market anytime soon. The Tesla X is proof that Tesla is not large enough and does have enough financial capability to develop and produce cars on the schedules they intend. The Model X is two years past due. That's almost 1/3 of a model life span. And from what I've read, the butterfly doors on the Model X are difficult to produce, which means warranty costs, further extending the financial burden of the company.

Worst off the Model S is due for a refresh at some point soon. I just don't see the company at the size it is, to handle all that development of 3 vehicle types. The Model 3 requires a new platform and technology to get the price down to $45K, which is going to be expensive to develop and put into production.

In my opinion the Bolt is a ballsy move on GM's part.

You are right. I think what we need to look at is how GM executed the Volt. The Volt hit all its target numbers for range, fuel mileage, price, and reliability/durability. No reason not to believe the Bolt won't be the same.

The only things I don't like about the Bolt design are the seat trim with the asymmetrical cover design and the copycat rear side window treatment, which looks right off the hideous i3. GM needs to rethink that rear side a bit, it will just give fodder for the detractors that GM is copying BMW and the i3, when in truth the i3 can't match anywhere near a 200 mile range. I did notice the Bolt does have a dead pedal...

The specs are very impressive!

I think that it would make a pretty nice city car. I can't ever see myself owning one, much like the i3, but it definitely has a place in the automotive market and has pushed the range envelope further.
