Revised outer seal TSB

While our X3 was in for the throttle lag TSB I also asked them to look into a whistling noise that came from the passenger side A pillar / mirror housing area. There is a TSB for this: SI B51 31 11

Part number 51-33-7-205-594 OUTER RIGHT SEAL

I actually noticed the quietness before I noticed the revised throttle on the drive home. Only drove for very short time but seemed like an improvement.

Our X3 had a build date of late April 2011. Took 1 day for the part to be shipped. Hopefully this can help some folks out.

What is the date of that TSB?

I had the mirror removed and something made to the insulation there but I don't believe that is where the whistling sound is coming from.

So I wonder if it is an update to the one I had made or the same one.

There was no date information for this fix, sorry. Just the TSB# was on the invoice.

I spent an entire day running errands in the X3 and the quietness is amazing. I never realized how much I hated that whistle noise. The inside of the cabin isn't Lexus vault like queit, but that's ok for me, I don't mind the road noise. It was just a constant whistle that this fix eliminated.

I also have wind noise problems which the mirror seals don't address. Unfortunately when I looked up the part number 51-33-7-205-594 on REAL OEM it's just the mirror seal, so nothing new. Too bad.

Marty

Part 51337205594 (Seal, outer right mirror triangle) was found on diagram: Trim and seals for door, front

Me too. BMW have given up saying it's a characteristic of the car.

Ok, Just got mine back from dealer. The software patch fixed the throttle lag as expected. just feel like my loaner 2011 E90 335xi and very pleased!

For the wind noise, they did multiple test drive and could reproduce abnormal noise coming from both front side window. Found SIB 51-31-11, ordered and installed both parts 51337205594 and 51337205593. but they thought it fixed only 70% of noise.

Finally, they called BMW and found one more parts missing which secure seals and mirror base tightly but the parts is only available in Germany. It is coming soon.

I'll update it once everything is done!

One more thing i noticed, my mpg has been increased from 18.5 to 21.3mpg on the way back to home. (90% hwy)
