Just wondering what X3 owners are doing to protect their rear leather seats from being destroyed by kids. Are you using anything special? If so what. Thanks for the input

I have no kids, but I would try to teach my kids to respect the vehicle as much as possible and no eating and drinking unless being on the road trip.

Two pieces of advice: (1) order black leather, (2) always drive in your wife’s car when the kids are along.

I would second on #2 - drive your wife's car when you need to chauffeur your kids around.

My teenage daughter likes to put her feet on the dash when she's in front, and her stuffed backpack will always scratch every single piece of trim around her. My younger son can be just as bad - sports gears, muddy hiking boots or cleats... there is absolutely nothing you can do unless you shrink-wrap the whole interior.

On the airbag??? You need to break her of that, or she'll be horribly injured when that airbag goes off.

That's what we do. With threats added. It works. We have Beige leather.

They know they can relax a bit more in the other car with the black interior. Still have to be pretty neat in that car too though. We keep baby wipes in both cars.

Oyster leather here.
Both my kids are in car seats, but I have a black towel across the back seat and put the car seats on top of that.
Whenever I give the car a full inside/outside clean I take the car seats out and the towel out, and the leather is "as new".

They are so use to eating that they instantly understood this was something special and they try to comply. 👍

The feet is just a NO. Kids ...

I get the stuff about the many bags with lovely buckles on them just slicing through the air in slo-mo waiting to scratch something horribly so you see it every day for years.

The girl in my life, the woman in my life. Both guilty. I berate them both, frequently.

Since I drive both kids and dogs in the backseat, I got a dog cover mainly in nylon I believe, that seems to do the trick. I haven't checked under the kid's car seat yet though .. if it's scratched or not.

From my experience with our minivan.. I see so much food crumbs and small toys.. Most of it fell on a seat protector which I highly recommend anybody that needs to use boosters.

LOL - not on top of the dash where the airbag is, for sure... totally agree that would have been disastrous if the airbag deploys...

The Captain front seats in our minivan is very roomy and my kids can sit there cross-legged when they feel like it. Moving their feet in and out of knee level, they would inevitably leave their footprints on the glovebox area or scuff the lower part of the dash trim with their shoes. This happen only in my wife's minivan since my wife doesn't care much about the condition of her van, for her the van is only a tool to shuffle kids around and not something she enjoys spending time in. :

Since Day 1 I've been training my kids to be more careful in my X3. But my point is, you can minimize the 'accidents' but you can't eliminate them all.
