Picking up our M40i on Saturday
Long story short... Wife bought her dream car, 2018 Charger Hellcat. Ended up having some starting issues. 9 visits to the dealer later and 5 attempted fixes, nothing helps, actually got worse. Filed for Lemon law, 6 months later we are still dealing with it but in the final stages. Looked for a replacement car in the mean time. Tried EVERY brand possible, literally... Came down to Audi or Volvo... Decided to give BMW another look and saw the X4 M40i on the lot. Wife HAD to have it. Well, couldn't buy it since we still had the lemon Hellcat. That X4 sold... Looked for others and couldn't find any in stock, they were flying off the lots...
Ordered one figuring we would be done with the lemon process on her Hellcat by the time the 5 to 8 weeks would be up. Well, dealer called us tonight and told us it would be ready for pick-up Saturday. So, we are going on a 200 mile drive to get a car to replace the lemon, but still have the lemon. Since we are so close to a resolution on the lemon, we are risking it and going to get the X4 anyways. It's hard to find one so it's worth the risk. Can't wait to have our hands on it! |

I'm just curious how many they are going to make. Some European video I saw on YouTube said only like 3,xxx worldwide would be made of the M40i. Dealer also told me that it'll be near impossible to get an allocation to have one built too. I'll take that all with a grain of salt but we DID seem to get one of the last allocations within 800 miles of our house... We called and called with no luck on ordering one except for two dealers... One said they could order but didn't know how long it would take... The other said they had an allocation available for one they were going to do a dealer spec on. They changed their order for us just in time!

There aren't many X4 vehicles sold at all. Look at the BMW sales numbers that are posted to Bimmerforums every month or so and you'll see that X4 is one of the least produced vehicles. Is it demand? Is it artificial constraint in supply? Not sure.
All I know is I had to wait almost 6 weeks to finally get a production slot from a dealer to order my X4 M40i. I asked two different dealers. |

That's one thing I loved about my Hellcat when I bought one... First year and not many being made, were supposed to be limited but Dodge found out they couldn't keep up with the demand and were making about 10x more a year than they originally said they would. Anywhere I went, people were taking pictures, asking about it, stopping me to talk about the car. After a few months it got pretty tiring though... Glad it's going away.

I sold mine (F26 carbon black 35i) to Carmax. It sold the first day it became available.
