I'm not a fan of these at all but I understand the appeal to the American market. Americans just don't care for estates/tourings (wagons).
You’re forgetting the Chinese market. But, you are correct about estates/touring. Maybe it could be that people who grew up in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s equate wagons with those from the big three. And they used to ride in those very same ones, and hated it. And anything that remotely reminds them of their “torturous” ordeal riding in a American station wagon.

Do BMW sell the Touring version of the M550i in the US? We don’t get either version here, yet.

Well if your profile is correct then you're driving one now aren't you? Also, just because a car is in your agenda doesn't mean you bought it already. Never assume.

I'm good, you need to relax, that sarcastic never assume comment wasn't necessary really.

You sure that couldn't be a 285 on the rear? The M40i is 245/275...no way the M is narrower...

Don't forget these test vehicles are Prototypes.

No wonder why they look narrow, because they are. They NEED to be Wider! Photos don't lie!

It would be nice is some aggressive bulging Fender Flares to accommodate hopefully wider production wheels.

It just dawned on me why they're perhaps showing the prototype with narrower wheels. It's because that they may be adding some nice bulging wheel arches to accommodate wider wheels. And are just doing that so they don't fully disclose the exterior design. That is a possibility.

Quite possibly...would correlate with Palbay photos showing tape markers on the fenders...indicating possible testing of wider wheel arches.

I found these photos. Thanks for sending me a PM.

I do like these X5 M rims a little better than what their showing, their more simple and clean looking. Still like the M4's Competition and CS Rims way better!

265 is front tire size for Porsche Macan, Mercedes GLC AMG63 just to name a few. BMW needs to up its game, 265 front and 295 rear. Hopefully this is not design issue as several new generation BMW started going with wider track which prevented using wider tires with deeper/negative offset wheels.

Purely aesthetics is driving this belief; no?

Sorry if this has been answered, but new to this forum.

Are any performance numbers out for the X3m (or estimates)? Any idea on pricing? I assume a fully loaded one has to come in somewhere under $100k USD, because then you're getting into X5M pricing.

Last November I started thinking about the X3M’s performance potential [ https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1444613 ]. It’s been difficult to make estimates because so many key variables are still unknown (HP, torque, Cd, frontal area, and weight as examples). But some guesses were made (490 HP, 644Nm, Cd 0.345, Area 2.64, weight 1905 kg) and plugged into my DIY simulation (certainly not professional software, but it has captured a number of vehicle curves reasonably well over the past few years). In this rough simulation, it showed a ¼ mile of 12.34s @118.4 mph and a top speed of 174.8 mph. With a Wt/HP of 8.57, it would seem 0-60 in 3.7s wouldn’t be out of the question.

It’s going to be interesting to see how BMW positions the X3M. With lighter weight (c/w X5/6Ms), it has a chance to bring some amazing performance if they allow it.

Based on the latest motortrend review of all of the X3/4 M competitors, these numbers won't be good enough.

That's my biggest fear! Not sure if I'm willing to give up those two cylinders. I know the X3M will be lighter and powered accordingly but AMG stuffed a TT V8 in the GLC63... just sayin...
The medium SUV's have come along way. My GLC63 S Coupe is faster than a c63s (0-100km/hr in 3.8secs) and faster than a c63 around the nurburgring (but not the c63s)
