Opti Coat - Is it worth the cost? Did you regret it?

Just wonder is the Opti Coat is worth the cost. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you think its a good product worth the price? Did you reject it? This is what I am being quoted.

OPTIMUM GLOSS-COAT
2-year coating starting at $425

OPTI-COAT PRO
5-year warranty starting at $1200

OPTI-COAT PRO+
7-year warranty starting at $1,500

If those prices are at a dealer, I would suggest looking around to see who they use to install, and going direct. Will likely be cheaper.

I never get things like window tint, detailing, or other options at a dealer. I dont mind going to dealerships for things they do, but almost no dealership actually does any of the ceramic coating, tint work etc stuff.

They just farm it out to another company and take a payment from you to do so.

Those prices sound right. They are all great products which make washing and maintaining the vehicle so much easier. Just know that Gloss Coat is the consumer version and Opti Coat Pro/Pro+ are the professional grade versions which is why there is such a large gap in price.

I did opticoat pro+ on my S4 and regretted it. The money vs improvement wasn't there.... Though I will say it was better on the paint than it was on the PPF I had on the hood, bumper, and front quarters. Are you wanting scratch protection or shine/dirt repulsion. If scratch prevention, just eat the money and get the X3 fully wrapped like I did. if shine I'd try the two products my detailer talked me into that changed how I do car care now. CarPro Ech20 wash and Hydr20 sealant. Do a hard wash with a mit and wash of choice, move car inside garage or covered area, do spray wash with the Ech20 and wipe off, then wet car and spray with Hydr20 and immediately power wash off the car panel by panel. shine and dirt repulsion is better than the OptiCoat was in my opinion. Only on week 2 so I can't speak to longevity yet.

I had a local detail shop apply ProCeramic. I was skeptical as a retailer of my own cars for years, but thrilled at how well it helps keeping it clean

If you're able to do it yourself, you can get ceramic coatings from detailer supply places like detailers domain or auto geek.

It's easy to do but it does take some patience.

I use Kamikaze Miyabi and ISM to coat our BMW's. After polishing the vehicle, these are both great coatings.

I am going to DIY it in the spring. There's so many good tutorials and options that makes paying $1K+ out of the question. Here is a good channel for information in general and he covers almost any product.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGR...HBdl2EnPphB9WA

I'm either going crystal light serum or powerlock+ as a base and then beadmaker or something similar on top.

I recently used Meguiars hybrid ceramic wax on my wife’s new Acura RDX, and it’s just amazing. I’ll be using this product on my AW M40 next week (after the rains).

I'm interested in that stuff too. The product is new so it will depend on reviews with time, but either this or bead maker for the topper. Lay down powerlock+ as a base with either product on top and you are good to go. Can't wait for the weather to warm up!

Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic

Rainy day project here. Applied Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax to RH side of my M40...looks fantastic. Car had been washed, and paint did not require any correction (clay bar). My application process was exactly as Meguiars recommends:

1. I wet down a clean panel with distilled water (any water will work).
2. Shook the product bottle and sprayed liberally over entire panel.
3. Took clean microfiber cloth and worked product in using long, overlapping horizontal strokes.
4. Wiped completely dry with another clean microfiber cloth. Done.

It’s that simple, and the results are impressive. I will report back after a month or two on how it’s holding up i.e. beading/sheeting of water.

Was for Suntek. price was the same for Xpel as well, but he does either suntek or Xpel depending on the color of the car. He's explained it a few times and keep forgetting why he does it that way. He has 3m for when people insist on it, but doesn't like it over the other two.

Sonnax has one as well. Good for about 3 months is what I'm hearing.

How are you finding the longevity and protection of this product? are you getting any scratches?
