If going for the cupholder versions...The WeatherTech ones do get some bad reviews for fit since it is a stacking cup method. I got one much cheaper from Amazon with a lot of features on it. Works great. Some issues...If you like having your "cover" closed like I do, that means moving the holder each time. Also, as other have said, takes a place for drinks. Since the holders are easy to remove though, in the rare cases of drinks, not an issue.

Spigen does something similar that also fits a wireless charger and offers a bit of adjustment.

I had considered this mount for a while because generally vent mounts aren’t that stable but I pulled the trigger and am so happy with this one. Magsafe for newer model iPhone users and can be positioned out of the way of the all controls on the dash. Is also very stable.

Found a nice mount that fits in between the vents for the pre-LCI but customized it so that it will fit all aftermarket ball-mount style phone mounts. The mount in the picture is a Belkin MagSafe Wireless Charger mount without the usb-c cable connected. I connect the cable when I feel the need to charge the phone while it's mounted.

For those interested, it was customized by 3D printing the ball mount shown in the second picture. Without the customization, you need to put a metal plate on your phone case or phone to attach the phone magnetically to the mount.

Only solution I found that doesn't block the vents, provides easy access to the phone while driving, and doesn't interfere with any major controls/buttons.

Throw your phone in the console to avoid ball cancer, and charge it as well if you have a charger there.
Why would you use Waze on your phone when you have CarPlay?

It is against the law to touch your phone at all when driving in the UK so better to have it out of the way altogether. That's the whole point of CarPlay.

If you want to start a thread about people looking at their phones while driving to feed your inner Karen, have at it. This isn’t that thread.

For the record, I’m not on social media (this forum excluded if you count that) and I don’t text when I drive. if I did, it wouldn’t be by reaching across the dash to my phone, I would just hold it in my hand. Not all apps are accessible via CarPlay like my garage door app.

You need access to your garage door app while driving? I'm confused. Can you clarify the need there? The BMW comes with homelink to easily open and close a garage door.

I often open the garage well before I arrive when I’m out of range to signal the family that my arrival is imminent when I have groceries, etc. that I need help with in lieu of sending a text. It was just one example of an app I can’t access in CarPlay…regardless, how different is it for me to use the built in screen for something like music vs. my phone which is right next to the screen? It’s really not. Having the phone mounted keeps me from having to fumble for it in my pocket or getting it out of the console area which is even more of a distraction. I just want easy, clean access to the device which is really the whole reason I want it mounted. I keep sunglasses and other items in the console so no room for the phone (no charger there because of chip shortage).

Again, feel free to discuss the perils of using a phone while driving in another thread. I don’t disagree with you in general about phone use in the car, but don’t assume that because someone wants their phone mounted it’s because they want to text or use social media. I can’t think of a time I saw someone typing on their phone while it was on a mount. It’s always in their hands.
