Thanks all for the input
no problem, just scroll down and it has the m40 painted caliper parts

For this folks still following this thread, I canceled the BMW dealer purchase and went with FCP Euro as they eventually got the OEM pads back in stock.

Here's a link to my cart which has all necessary parts for brake service.

https://www.fcpeuro.com/cart?utm_sou...1060956819%232

2 Zimmerman coat-z rotors (directional)
4 ATE Breakpads
2 Brake pad sensors
2 Brake pad sensor clips
1 brake lube

$546 total with free shipping.

Did you set off the light for brake wear? Or just go by the date/service schedule? If you didn't trigger the light you don't need to replace any sensors. Also, every bmw I've had only has 1 sensor per axle, are these cars different?

I bought the sensor just to be sure. When I pulled it off the pad it was definitely tripped. No need for the clips.

And yeah, you're right it only had one sensor installed, on the driver's side. That was my mistake.

Literally just finished swapping them out an hour ago. It's a process but definitely doable.

I'm not quite due for brakes yet but have been looking around for drilled/slotted rotors and euro-ceramic pads for less dusting. Found these on R-1 Concepts site.
https://www.r1concepts.com/details/r...rdware/1474966.

Has anyone tried these? Any recommendations?

There are total of 2:
1-front left and
1-rear right

They are correct since you're only replacing fronts.

Curious at what mileage you all are needing brakes, and why replace rotors bit just pads. Im fairly new to BMW and recently got an x3 and an m340. I hope to get my x3 m40 soon for myself, others are family members cars. The dust is crazy on these and in my hellcat it was really easy to swap to carbon ceramic pads and rotors seemed to last forever with those pads. Same with my scat pack which I just sold at 53k original rotors and power stop pads installed at 1k . Both had life left and were very easy to change , I just watched this video and feel it way too much work for me to handle lol

I’m about 28-29K miles in on my x3, I had to replace the rear pads first before it was time to replace the front pads. I forgot how many miles I replaced the rear. But I haven’t replaced any rotors yet. I’m going to change rotors on the next pad change (which most likely be the rear first)

We needed brakes at about 44,000 miles. BMW parts, for rotors and pads and sensors are about $1700 (BMW Westmont, IL). Yikes.
