Glad you’re ok but this gives me comfort that the X3 is pretty strong.

My understanding is that (in the UK) if the airbags have deployed then it will almost certainly be a write off.

So sorry to hear about your accident, but glad that you are OK.
I was in an accident a few weeks ago in my 1 month old X3 https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...php?p=28457592. Nothing like the damage you sustained, but just received my insurance adjusters assessment at around $12k. I had no airbags go off. I'd say between your b-pillar being cut, airbags going off and damage it will likely be totaled. Hope you feel better and are able to find a replacement if needed.

Those pictures are not right. But I am pleased that you are alright. Your M40 is too beautiful to be with those old wrecks.

Unsure if you leased and whether you got much of a discount. Say two years ago my friend leased an X1 with 7.5% discount. He had a truck tire cross the median on highway 401 on to his path and the flying wheel smashed his driver front headlight area. It was a write off. Insurance paid him replacement cost, meaning he made 7.5%, even though he leased a new one with say 6% off. Hope insurance takes good care of you.

I haven't played with Drive Recorder yet. Hopefully someone who has can chime in.

Yes, an added bonus for BMW is generally their safety.

Yes, your car will be totaled. The B pillar being removed pretty much sealed that deal. (works at a dealership with a certified collision center).

Glad you are ok. We hear all the time about folks that walk away from serious accidents like these. BMW, even with all their other faults, makes a really safe car.

Firstly, thank you for all of the well wishes and advice. They’re truly heartwarming and well received. I’ve hobbled away from this accident with a fractured pelvis and sleepless nights, but a legit appreciation for BMW build design and quality. The advice received here to remember those airbags and the stability of the surrounding materials during that terrifying experience will help me sleep better, and I appreciate that.

Mimi is in route to the local BMW certified repair shop as I type this, so hopefully by COB tomorrow I’ll at least know the cost of all the damage.

Silver lining in all of this is I’ve 3 months before I can drive again, so regardless if it’s totaled or repaired, I’ve got time. ☺️ Thanks to that wonderful X3 I’ve got time.

SO great to hear from you.

Can't imagine the pain associated with a fractured pelvis. Please continue to keep us posted as to your health and the status of the repair estimates, etc.

Regards

Very glad you're still here and proud of that X3 for keeping you safe! Sometimes we gloss over the safety features that have become seemingly so common, until something like this reminds us of their importance. Sorry you had to go through this, but thanks for reminding me.

Hopeful for a speedy recovery and that you can find another X3 soon.

Your X3 will be totalled, it did its job and protected you from serious harm.

I got broadsided in the driver's side once by a BMW X5 - it was pretty scary seeing the headlights coming right at me and knowing the only thing I could do was brace for impact. You'll get over it and eventually it will just be a distant memory, it just takes time.

It’s official

Update: I am so thankful that we have USAA as our ins company. They totaled out the X3 and we’ve accepted the settlement. We thankfully signed up for their Car Replacement Assistance option that would give us the market value for our car plus 20% of that market value added to the final pay out if totaled. So I’m very happy to say that the next X3 we get will be ordered (first time doing so). I’m a bit nervous since there will likely be very little room to negotiate. But I’ll still give it a go.

Recovery is a my daily focus, and I’m still not ready to tackle my stairs, but I’m happy to put this first week behind me. Only 11 more to go. 😊

The carbon black is AMAZING. Just took delivery of mine two days ago and I'm loving it.

Stick with those guyz - they're keeperz! What an amazing bunch. In the UK they'd give you less than market value and tell you to fuck off.

This is such great news - congratulations! I've been following the thread and am really happy to hear that things are working out after such a nasty accident.

Once you get the new X3, it'll be nice to bookend this thread with new pics

Take your time with the recovery - and I hope you're back to full fitness real soon!

OP if they cut that B-pillar that car is totaled then, no insurance company out there will take a chance on the liability that comes with repairing a B-pillar and putting the vehicle back on the road.

Wow, that is some serious damage. Really glad you are OK and that the X3 seemed to do an admirable job of protecting you.

Yeah too right. Despite higher used prices in the UK at the mo, settlements I am hearing about are bottom trade price or below. Highway robbery! Glad I took out GAP insurance for the first four years.

Great settlement. +20%! That's X3 M territory
