Agreed, leasing is tough right now. You can thank COVID insanity artificially raising price, only to drop them on their faces. Hence why MF is super high. My local credit union is still doing 6% up to 72 months. I HIGHLY recommend you finance and cut BMWUSA completely out of the picture. Leasing is complicated, with the purpose to $crew over the customer.

I just moved from S.California to Illinois, and sadly realized this past week that my 2019 440i Coupe is not going to get me very far here! I’m looking order a 2023 X4 M40i, and the dealer quoted me the following:

36 months, 10k miles
$73,070MSRP
$72,070 Selling Price
$1,000 in rebates (loyalty) [I thought there was more?]
$1,817 drive-off ($1173 first payment, $324 doc fee. $215 license and 100 tax)
MF - .0018

I also plan on selling my 440 (pristine!) with only 14,000 California miles on it. The dealer is offering $33k and Carvana is at $36k.

Should I expect to get any deeper discounts off of MSRP? Is it also possible to move the needle on the dealer offer for my 440?

Having two sets of wheels/tires is a big ask for most people, let alone someone from SoCal.

Haha...WAY cheaper than getting a new car! And frankly much more fun...I drove a manual RWD M3 for years with snows and pretty solid!

Thanks for the input, folks! I’d like to get the most for my 440, which is why I’ve decided to sell now rather than wait until the inevitable pothole ruins an otherwise pristine car.

Lease rates are definitely high, and it doesn’t seem like I will be able to get too much of a discount off of MSRP. I’m going to keep trying to chip away, though, and see what I can achieve before my current Carvana offer expires.

Again, if you actually live within the City, you will pay about 18.5% total lease tax on the monthly payment amount. Cash or finance only real options unless you like lighting your money on fire.

Since it is just about the worst time ever to lease get some square smaller size snows and you will be fine...many people driving much nicer and more expensive cars than a 440 and they survive.

I have a house in the suburbs for primary residence purposes, so I’ll be able to avoid the Chicago tax. That will help!

I’m not sure if this is the appropriate forum to ask, but if I were to finance instead of leasing, what is the likelihood that I would be under water after three or four years if I decided to sell or trade-in? Realistically, I will be driving only 5 to 7000 miles per year. All three of my previous BMWs have been leases, but with how close the lease and finance costs are, it seems that financing might be the best option.

I’ll likely put $6k down, which is what I hope to net after selling my 440. I financed the 440 after my lease expired.

Just my quick math...

$72k selling price + 7.25% tax and 1k random fees = ~$78k

78k - 6k = 72K financed. (at 60 mos)... it means you will roughly pay off more than half the car over 3 years... so ~30K remaining... the questions is will the car be worth 30k after 3 years? I would definitely think so.

Great response. With lease rates where they are today, and having equity to use as a DP, I def concur with ASAP. You should be ahead in 3 yrs vs. o/s loan amt, AND even better outlook after 5 yrs, given the annual miles driven you suggest.

I thought Texas was bad at 6.25%. My family in the city choose to drive old cars, so if someone hits them it isn't a total loss.

Hey guys,

Been following this thread for help on a deal. My 330 xDrive ends in Nov 2023 and I wasn't really serious about searching for a deal but I wanted to feel out where the market was going to be given all the craziness. Ended up putting a deposit down because my dealership wanted to play ball. I also wanted a car with a hitch to do some towing this summer, so..

Here is what we agreed to:

- BMW X3 m40 (36/12k)
- MSRP: $66,175
- Sales price: $62,716 (5.5% off!)
- MF: .00182
- Residual: 55%
- Rebates: $1,500 loyalty cash
- Trade equity from lease: $500
- $3500 down (upfront taxes + fees, includes first month payment)

= Payment: $899/mo

Delivery in March and we agreed any NEW rebates which come out from now until delivery will be added to my deal -- I anticipate catching at least another $1000 on some Spring program, which will reduce my payment to $872.


I wanted to share b/c I think this is a solid deal for the current conditions. The dealer told me they definitely don't anticipate residuals improving anytime soon.

What do you think?

I kind of agree. I am ready to purchase/order but the numbers are insane. I am looking at alternatives but it's slim pickins as there are no real "value" leasing on vehicles across the board.

What are you guys expecting? I leafed back in this thread to 2019, I am still not seeing numbers which are significantly different, unless $100/mo difference is significant to folks in this forum.

Even if you adjust the MF down to 2.5% from 4.4%, it hardly moves the payment, and I have not seen residuals for the X3 in the past 4 years north of like 58%. Are you guys getting 15% off MSRP? Are you expecting 5000 in rebates / cap cost reduction?

Could someone share the "acceptable" deal for this car?

I have no desire in keeping the X3 and it will be under mileage by the time i return it next year. Im at 7k now, dealership will make money on this car.
I may go with CPO X4 with right options, because going new- the numbers are very high.

A few years back, bought an X5 MSport and was paying $815 mo 36/15k. I put down MSD's and $2500 out of pocket.I don't think I got some killer deal as I was new to leasing at the time. 2018 sometime. I have been hearing of X3 M40i's in the 700s pre-fiasco.
