F25 AC compressor noise
Hi all, Ive always has a pretty noticeable drone coming from the AC compressor heard from inside the cabin. Is this coming on all F25? What are you all hearing from yours? Im wondering if this is due to low refrigerant charge (system cools well) or if its just normal. 77kmiles on 2017 3.5i My F82 with S55 engine does not put out any compressor noise.

I hear the A/C compressor whine on my F25, but the A/C works perfectly well even in FL. I have thought about having the a/c system checked to make sure it's not over/under charged but it's pretty far down the list.
It's been working fine now for more than 2 years, FWIW. Hasn't changed sound, hasn't gotten worse...

I can barely tell it's even on. Use a mechanics stethoscope to pinpoint the location of the sound

Mine had a whine when the compressor is on. You can hear it inside the cabin. I took it to the dealer a year ago and they said the ac system was under charged. They charged it and the noise went away. It's back now though.

Only after reading this post did I realise what that bloody whine was. I turn the AC off and it goes away, will get it recharged but it cools perfectly even in Australian summer. It does have 160,000kms though, 2014 model

Mine whined and the majority of the noise ended up being a bad belt/tensioner. After that there was still a small rattle but I suspect that was bearing noise with the pully/clutch assembly.

Low Freon charge can happen; systems are sealed closed loop but they can leak a bit over several years time, I've experienced that- but low charge did not create noise, only loss of cooling capacity. |

I'm noticing that my 2016 is making a whine when the AC is on. I suspect its the compressor pulley bearing which is common in other makes of vehicles. I'm new to the bimmer world, so is more assumption correct or could it be just a low freon charge?

I vaguely remember a few years ago the technician re-gassing the systems on my X5 and putting an extra 10g of refrigerant in for no particular reason; maybe thinking he was doing good. He did the X3 the following day too. When I had them both re-gassed by another technician at the same place last year he charged with the exact value as stated on the sticker and they are both now pretty much silent when running. So my case was a slightly high freon charge causing the noise. |

Mine kind of makes noise in the morning, but get's quite after about 10 minutes. More so when it's cold outside than anything.
A/C rips and is nice and cold |
