Ordering carbon fiber trim on a 30i, possible but how?

I’m soon to put in an order on a ‘24 x3 30i, and I’d like to get carbon fiber trim [S04MC]. My CA is brand new, has no idea how to do this, and would prefer to default to choosing from the options in the configurator. I’m aware that certain items can be ordered, even though they aren’t represented via the online configurator (E.G., X3M alcantara seats, individual paint colors, etc).

Apart from insisting on this particular trim and supplying the code [S04MC], what are my options? (I suppose I can go to another dealership and get a new CA). Has anyone here successfully ordered CF trim on a 30i?

You might wonder why I don’t just add it after delivery.

A) it’s hard to source new, ebay has some used pieces
B) I’d have to pull off the door panels & dremel out existing trim
C) pricing seems to be north of $1500 USD… IF I can source it new
D) the 3M overlay CF trim has gap issues that rule it out as an option

I think loads of people in the US would be interested in ordering X3M M Sport seats in an M40/30i. Don’t think anyone has managed this on an M40. Anyone ?

Some options cannot be put on certain models and afaik this is set by BMW corporate.

Someone did it - I saw the photos. IIRC, it was a $7K USD upcharge for the Black Alcantara interior for a non X3M

I said I saw photos of a non X3M wearing Black Alcantara interior, not that I knew how to do it. Ostensibly, they convinced their CA to find a way to make it happen, and that way was by charging $7k.

(As an aside, I’m not going for the Black Alcantara interior, I just want the CF interior trim)

It’s not an option on the BMW price list for a G01 30i, only the 40i.

AFAIK regional BMW corporate doesn’t allow dealers to A la carte any option to any model. They are fixed on the configuration’s for a specific variant, with some flexibility around colour/leather using the individual option, which appears on my local configurator for some models.

I think this is still current in terms of options -

I am pessimistic about success, but if I were to try, I'd would talk to the dealer GM and ask them to talk to their BMW rep. The dealer GM has a different level of access than the sales staff, as I learned in my recent deal when my order had to be built a second time. If that BMW rep cannot make it happen with the plant for a non-released condition in the U.S. product plan, it's not likely going to happen as part of the original build. If you simply have your sales advisor include the order code (likely not even possible with non-paper, online ordering), it would likely just stop the order processing as an error.

Don't forget to order Dynamic Handling Package and pick your caliper color from red or blue.

Aluminum Rhombicle trim isn’t listed there - so that can’t be totally current.

it is not possible and can only be done on the x3m40i just like the heritage emblems and other X3m various trim levels can only be ordered on the M40i versions. Some have made it happen in EU but not state side..

Right - I just remembered that it was a UK custom order on the M40i with Alcantara/Merino seats with beige contrast stitching.

I still have hope for the CF trim though - that’s at least represented on the US order sheet. I’ll push a few dealers: you can have my order if you can make it happen with CF trim

I hope it works for you, but please keep in mind that it really isn't the independent franchised dealer and unless one is just unwilling to try, the results should be the same from all. They would love to sell you more content. But, if the product plan as released makes your choice a non-released, therefore, non-buildable condition, it's BMW that is the obstacle. There are ways to override parts releases in a plant, but, again, that is up to the plant to accept.

Even if BMW were willing to do this, which I highly doubt, I doubt you’d be willing to pay for this one off option considering $1500 is too expensive for you.

Y’all aren’t thinking outside the box. I could see a dealer presenting this option: “we’ll split the cost of the trim, I’ll order it from the parts department, and you’ll have to install it yourself”

Optimal solution? No.
Workable solution? Yes.

this trim could be 5-10% of the cost of the car.

That’s not what you originally asked. Doing this aftermarket is completely different than factory.

But, please think like a dealer. This would expect them to be complicit in actions that void your warranty with you doing the labor. The reverse might be more likely, but it would depend on how much, if any, discount they have already offered you on the vehicle price. At that point, you might be as well off to maximize the vehicle price discount negotiation and then just approach Service & Parts with a standalone job. If it's their parts and they install, you are still covered for any warranty issues without controversy.

Here’s another way to think outside the 30i box:

Order an M40i with CF instead.

You doing the work and any consequential issues in those specific areas would be suspect. Of course, it doesn’t affect the entire car under the MMWA law.
