Hello,

I have a 2015 X3 xDrive 28 and I've not been able to use the BMW Connected app (iOS version) for the past 6 weeks

A little background...

I purchased the vehicle 5 months ago and for the first few months, the app worked perfectly with my car. I mostly use the app to send addresses to the BMW and to find its location via the app. Approx 6 weeks ago, the app stopped connecting to my car. Every time I send a command (flash lights, locate, lock, unlock) the command times out and fails. When I send addresses, the address says it sends but there will be no new messages in ConnectedDrive folder in my car.

When I first encountered the issue, I called BMW and they told me the service expired and I needed to renew. I purchased the annual subscription to 'ConnectedDrive Services' and performed the following steps per the agent's direction:

1. Main Menu
2. ConnectedDrive
3. Option (physical button on center console)
4. Update BMW Assist
5. <wait for transfer to complete>
6. OK

This has not worked. I then upgraded the vehicle's software with the most recent version (see below):

Media: MN-002.055.071
Telephone: TN-002.255.080
Add-on: HN-003.255.080

This has not worked:

Through multiple calls with BMW ConnectedDrive and BMW Genius agents I've tried several troubleshooting techniques without success (including the BMW Assist Update mentioned above... several times).

Has anyone else had this issue? Has anyone been able to fix this issue?

Any help would be appreciated, I'm trying to avoid taking it in to a service center. From what I've read on other posts, the service center is not always helpful with app issues.

I had a similar issue in my i3. I simply had to pull fuse #115 (IIRC, its the fuse for "Media" or communications) and wait a min, and reinsert. Works like a charm now

Are you saying that the Connected Drive app will not invoke various functions like flashing the lights, opening/locking the car, indicating on phone car's position. If so, I am having the same issue with my '16 5 series sedan. After taking it to the dealer about a month ago, I was told that random BMWs are experiencing the same issues and, at that time, there was no fix available. I was just told yesterday, that there is a possible fix through updated software and I am hoping this can be resolved this coming Monday. Ironically, my '16 X3 continues to work just fine using same app on same phone, so there is nothing wrong with phone or app.

Great! I will try this and report back. I just have to find which fuse this is on my X3.

None of the app's functions work (lights, locks, location). The app itself fully appears to work, but when I send a command to my car, it times out and fails. I agree it's likely a car issue and not an app issue.

I've heard the same from the BMW Connected/Genius agents that this is affecting a number of BMW's and a solution has not been found. This is why i'm reluctant to take it in to a service center. The local BMW service center charges a ~$200 diagnostic fee even if the issue is not solved.

Please let me know if updating the software works for your sedan. Below is the software version I updated to a few weeks back (updated on 01/15/20):

Media: MN-002.055.071
Telephone: TN-002.255.080
Add-on: HN-003.255.080

In the meantime, I'm going to try the pulling/replacing the fuse as the previous post suggested. I'll let you know if it's succesful.

My 5 series is still on warranty, however, if BMW has screwed up a vehicle's working system by way of some software "revision", then I suspect they should repair it without charge to the owner.

Given your Connected functions have been out for six weeks and three weeks ago you had the software updated without success, then I am wondering if this this same "fix" my dealer intends to install next Monday. This is now a worry.

Taking a stab here but would it be possible that the email address associated with your connected drive account is locked or disabled since the services expired - maybe the genius could take a look at your account.

I called BMW Genius, my email address is showing as completely enabled and active. It was worth a shot though, thanks!

They did offer another process for rebooting iDrive (holding down the radio volume button for 20 seconds). This did not work (iDrive did not reboot).

Sorry it didn't pan out. I hope you get it sorted asap

Quick update on this...

I never got around to pulling/replacing the fuse as one of the posts suggested (was planning to, just didn't get to it) and I was never able to get a satisfactory solution from the BMW Genius agents.

But...

The app began working out of the blue over this past weekend. I'm able to send addresses and commands to the vehicle. I have a feeling it will fail on me in the future, but for the time being, it works!

similar outcome for the i3 crowd

some waited, for things to mend itself. the others (who wanted a quicker resolution) did the fuse trick , to get the car to reset communications sooner than later

either way, glad ya got it sorted out!!!

I've been trying to figure this out on my X3 for two years. Nothing in ConnectedDrive works - even the SOS (I pressed it one day just to see if it worked). It output the GPS coordinates but no data transferred. Spent hours on the phone with BMW and nobody can figure out why it doesn't work.

Do these use 3G data, by the way?

On the other hand, on my 320i, it worked perfectly from day one with 4G data.
