Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 Run Flat

Anyone have any real world experience with these...?

Fairly decent price for 19" on Tirerack and wanted to see if anyone has run them...

Definitely need some winter tires, as I can already feel the Pirelli summers starting to get hard as a rock in the cold weather...

I had them on previous model - for me they hit the spot.

The thing was like a snow-mobile in the deep stuff. Of course things (technology) may have moved on but baby steps perhaps?

Do you get a lot of snow and have to drive in it where you live? If not, you might consider a good set of high performance all-seasons which you can run all year long. That's what I do.

I would if they made a damn option for the 21” wheel option...

I’ve pretty much always run a hi performance all season but finding one that fits is apparently impossible...

Depending on the year we do get a fair amount of snow here in PA, and I’ve run snow tires before and loved them...

There are A/S tires (non-run flat) that fit the X3 M40i 21" rims. I spoke to Tire rack and they told me that the Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 (which are great A/S tires) come in the following sizes that will fit:
Front: 255-40-21
Rear: 275-35-21

Also, you can get A/S tires in the stock size for the X3M Comp 21" wheels.
Front: 255-40-21
Rear: 265-40-21

The front size is exactly the same as Tire Rack quoted me, I'm not sure why the rear size is slightly different? One of our forum members confirmed in this thread that he put these on his X3 M40i 21" rims and they fit:

I had the Sottozero 2's on my previous 330d touring and they were very good, in the ice and mild snow, (don't get too much thankfully in the UK where I live) and even with only rear wheel drive.

That's not too far from me! But no I never went looking for a dicey road to drive on. The reason I opted for winters on the that car was because I had very close call driving down mottram old road in my previous 3 series. Raining when I left the house, dropped my daughter off at her friends and then drove back down mottram old road. Well I say drive, I meant slide! The temp dropped in about 20 mins whilst I was out and I slid from the top to bottom (bumped the low kerb with my near side tyres) on the way down and bounced about a bit. Shit myself and luckily I did no damage at all (not even to the wheels). Thankfully, nothing was coming the other way.
