A little underwhelmed, honestly. I had pictured myself upgrading from my M40i when this came out, but it's just not different enough, and the reviews are confirming that it's not the jump you expect based on other M cars.

That's my impression, as well. I may have bought one when looking at the X3 if it had been out, but I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade from an M40i, especially when I plan to replace some body parts with black to get a more similar look.

I would love to have an X3MC in my garage right now but I feel like at the point the M40i really strikes the perfect balance between sport/luxury/utility for the price. Had they designed the X3M to be a bit more aggressive and differentiate it a bit more I think I could possibly justify a swap out. Granted the price difference is way more for the performance than the looks but overall I wouldn't use the increased performance day to day.
I'll either wait for the next gen X3M or perhaps step into the upcoming M3.

This will sell well.
It will effectively play the role of an M3 estate. Even prospective RS4 buyers will take a close look at the X3 Competition. |

No hitch, no point. I'd rather drive an M sedan and get the full experience.

As the video review said, people who are loyal to BMW as a brand might be interested, but it isn't really a stand out amongst its competitors. That is quite a change when M cars are usually head of the pack. |

Im surprised they couldnt get it under 4 secs even with the Competition. From all the reviews it seems it is just ok, which is a pretty big let down for such a critical market segment (compact SUV). Stelvio Quad just seem to be such a better bargain, faster, probably handles better, and sounds out of this world.
I do wish we can programmed that M HUD with horizontal rev counter into the M40i though, the normal HUD is pretty darn boring. |
