So, Bimmerlink and Billercode is just 2 differ software to do coding. Correct?

I have some question before I get start:

1). Let say I made a backup before I start. after I finish, can I make a backup (More like a snapshot) of all the coding?

2). The backup that I made before I start, Can I store it somewhere? like put it on my PC instead of it only on my phone?
The reason is, What if I lost my phone, or I change my phone down the road?

3). If I bring it back to dealer , should I restore the backup first so return everything to factory?

4). If dealer upgrade the ECU on my car. Do I just start coding again, just like a new car?
1. BimmerCode makes backups automatically everytime you change something. I'm not an expert, but when you code you code each module area separately. It seems that it makes separate backups by module, but depending on the module updated it may also backup others. Others may understand this more, but that was the impression I got when looking at the backup timestamps which you can view after selecting a module area.

2. In the app docs it includes details how to save your backups independent of your phone.

3. I've read different options. To be safest, yes. But some dealers don't care at all. Others might not care if you're doing something routine, but may question it if you're having them look into an issue that could in anyway be software influenced.

4. I haven't had this happen yet, but that's the impression I get. I'm not sure if you ever have to be concerned about compatibility between Bimmercode and iDrive versions.

One coding tip, save your driver profiles to USB before coding and then restore after. There's an option in iDrive for this. Otherwise you may lose some settings, such as the audio tone EQ after coding. I also found that even with this approach you may lose the preset button value settings though.

Coding to turn on FOGS with parking or High Beams

This weekend I wandered through the EXPERT section of Bimmercode (G01 X3 M40i) and found how to have fog lights STAY on when parking lights, or more importantly, HIGH BEAMS are on.

Yea...controversial that us silly 'mericans" want to have Fogs on all the time. I definitely do since I wholeheartedly subscribe to making myself as visual as possible when driving a $65K SAV (hehe).

First, must have Bimmercode. Second, I did this with UniCarScan.

1. Go to BDC.
2. Click on EXPERT MODE.
3. Click on "Continue" when asked to confirm you want to "cause serious problems".
4. Scroll to "3075 LceMaster" and choose it.
5. Make two changes...
5a1. Scroll to "NSW_AUS_BEI_FL" and choose it.
5a2. Change from "aktiv" to "nicht_aktiv".
5a3. Click the back arrow to return to the "3075 LceMaster" choices.

5b1. Scroll to "NSW_EIN_AUF_LDS_STL" and choose it.
5b2. Change from "nicht_aktiv" to "aktiv".
5b3. Click the back arrow to return to the "3075 LceMaster" choices.

6. Go back to the main screen and click coding.

It worked for me. Fogs stay on when I go to High Beams. Awesome.

BTW...why is this the first time I have seen anyone post (other than Rolls Royce sounds) a way to update settings in Bimmercode that are in Expert Mode? Share your findings, people!

Paul

After reading this for long time, I think I will do coding
Question is, should I get Bimmercode or Bimmerlink?

Bimmerlink doesn’t do coding, it’s made by the same guy as Bimmercode and just does error codes and diagnostics stuff.

Is anyone here on ios using the Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) OBD2? It's only $30, but it's not one of the adapters recommended on the Bimmercode site so I'm concerned it might not work

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...7NLQC62N&psc=1

The OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth OBD2 (which is recommended by Bimmercode) is $80. I'd prefer to save $50 if the Vgate works well.

I have the vgate and the mx+. The mx+ does a lot more than the vgate can handle. Be sure to check if the vgate does everything you want.

I've seen a forum member from Mexico posting pictures showing the fog lights on without the low beam, so I knew it could be enabled somehow. Glad to see you figured that out and shared with a detailed step by step procedure. Not many people are willing to take the time to write detailed how-to

Ah...but you have said there are no cheat sheets for the G01.

If there are, post them.

None that I have seen. But, same or similar codes that are used for G01 that are on F15.

I've a series of related questions concerning Bimmercode backup/restore.

1. When backing up does Bimmercode backup everything?
2. Does it restore everything?
3. When restoring a backup can you select the specific backup to restore or does Bimmercode just restore the latest backup?

Background for my questions.

My plan is to get my X3 coded for several things that are outside the scope of Bimmercode eg vld, antidazzle. I would like a complete backup before doing it and complete backup afterwards. My thought is to restore the default backup before taking the car into the shop and then restoring the coded changes afterwards. Is this something that Bimmercode can do or not really?

Thanks,

Each time you code a module it backs up all the current values for that module. When restoring you can select which backup you want to restore.

It is not advisable to restore from a backup before BMW updated your car's firmware, you should then redo the coding from scratch (which takes very little extra time anyway)
