Fuel use in different modes
Did a non-scientific experiment the last few days.
My commute to work was at the same time and traffic was (mainly) the same for all three journeys. I tested comfort mode on day 1, sport on day 2 then eco pro on day 3 to see what difference it made. Its a 26 mile commute with some country roads (40mph limit) then motorway until almost at destination. I only used the fuel use figure from the BMW connected app and not the on board trip computer. Comfort mode - 4.1 litres of fuel used Sport mode - 4.2 litres of fuel used Eco pro mode - 4.1 litres of fuel used Granted it is in reality quite a short measure of fuel use and longer journeys would probably have a greater difference in fuel use. On the last day in eco pro mode the traffic was restricted by a variable speed limit of 60mph so you would think more "efficient" rather than at 70 on the previous two days. |

Appears as though I should never have any worries about burning a ton more fuel by always starting in Sport Mode. :
Curious though, how did you see fuel used in the app? Mine only seems to say the gallons of fuel left and estimated total range.

Fuel before trip - fuel after trip = fuel consumed during the trip

In the BMW App, go to activity to see your last trip. It tells you exactly how much fuel you used on that trip.

I don't have it either : I do have Activity tab, but it says something about future trips, not past.

It's really interesting the numbers were so similar. This just further proves that economy is completely dependent upon driving style.

I tried changing the setting to always on again and a trip last night showed up under the activity tab
Not sure if it only saves the last trip as we drove there a few hours before? It mean though having to have gps active all the time and sometimes the iPhone will flag up a message saying connected app is using gps in background |

Thank you MarkyM. Do you have by any chanceOnline Logbook in your car? You also posted in that thread. I'm trying to find out, why you have it, and others (me included) don't. I'm looking for EU/UK members.

eco mode has 2 "features" that really do any saving of gas. coasting, and severely limiting your throttle on acceleration. both of these will save gas, but over a long period of time. top of my head, I'd say with my driving patterns, use of acc etc, I can usually save 20-30km worth of fuel on each gas fill.
so not really much overall. at least from my experience |
