Most folks will tell you that handling improves when you go from Run Flat Tires (RFT) to conventional tires. However, not all RFT tires are created equally. We have two X4s - one on conventional Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires the other one on (drummroll, please) **PERFORMACE** RFT tires.
The performance RFT are very close to being on par with the Michelin PSS. Having said that, I have rented 2-series Bimmers in Germany that also were on RFT. And they were horrible. Completely "not OK" on the Autobahn at speed. If you go with conventional tires, be sure to also purchase a BMW Mobility Kit which will get you home if you ever catch a nail or similar out on the road.

Ditched original Pirelli RFTs after only 32K highway driving worn to the bars. Picked up Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ NRFTs. Love 'em. Good price, quiet and better handling. Carry an emergency tire repair kit - goop + compressor.
