I've got F15 X5 50i two piston, 365x36mm and X5M four piston, 395x36mm brake setups to test fit soon on my F25 X3. I'll part with the one I don't keep, most likely the 365mm, two piston setup, as long as the M brakes clear my 19" wheels.

Interested in your project.

Wanted to know if the hub bore of the f15 rotors would fit f25

We'll see. It should. The X4 is the common link. Same hub carrier and hub as the X3, but uses X5 brakes.

X4 is the common link? according to realoem, the X4 uses the same brakes as the X3, not the X5.

The X3 front is 328x28. The standard X4 front is the same, but the M40i uses 348x30, same as various X5 and X6 fitments. The M40i caliper list as interchangeable, too.

Sweet so you're telling me the front rotors I bought for my 2010 328 that I never got around to installing will fit my 2013 X3?

Not likely. The 3-series rotor hub bore diameter is larger.

I'd recommend Meyle rotors and Akebono pads from ECS Tuning. They perform great, show no rust spots, quiet, and low dust. Pretty cheap too.

BTW, X5 brakes don't bolt right up. Lateral offset is greater. A spacer would be necessary. Bolt spacing is identical, at least.

You probably heard about the golden rule of brake pads, you can only choose 2 out of the three characteristics: noise, dust, bite.

The Hawk 5.0's are a great compromise pad, with a tiny amount more dust than OEM, but they are silent, and offer a greater bite. I really like them so far, and my 2-ton F25 X3 now stops like a proper BMW vehicle...
Coming back to this after a while.

The DS2500s are good stoppers, however as you say its' one of three and it's the noise which isn't the best.

I'm still looking for decent pads available in the UK as I can't swap the calipers because the 17" wheels I use won't fit.

Great Job. Would high grade washer be able to center the offset?

No, it's somewhere in the vicinity of 10mm. A stack of washers might, but that would be too sketchy.

I installed Akebono EURO pads on front and rear (front with OEM rotors, rears with Zimmerman coated), but not happy with their performance. Initial bite is lacking, and stopping is highly non-linear. I have to press very hard for panic stop.

As much as I did not like stock (OEM BMW pads) for their excessive black dust, they performed so much better than Akebono. I am considering getting back to stock to restore proper braking feel.

I have Akebono ProACT on my other car - RAV4, and surprisingly they work very well - good initial bite, linear braking feel, low dust. Looks like EURO line has issues.

Bumping this thread. Still interested in a fixed caliper front brake retrofit that won’t upset the brake bias.
I see the new M5 has a basic sliding caliper rear with a big fixed caliper front brake so perhaps we are overthinking the bias issue.
I’ve now upgraded tires to a 255/40-19 Michelin PS4 and it’s better still. The stickier tires have seemingly resulted in more body roll and I’m thinking about oem sport springs or maybe H&R, and OEM sport sway bars. I should do dampers as well.

So braking is well improved over how it was, but I’d prefer even more brake performance if possible while minimizing cost and allowing an 18” rim ( winter tires are on 18s )

Maybe the G01 X3 M40i caliper 34116884880 ? $560 plus shipping from discount oem parts providers. The rotors are 348x36 it seems.

This looks interesting. I’m assuming that if it fits an X4 it should fit an X3.
When I look online at the part number it seems to be a 3 series compatible part, which does not cross over to the X3.

Update:
Unfortunately this appears to be the case, it’s a 3-series part that will not fit an X3 (or X4)

There is also an open issue on whether the X3 can be VO coded for “Sport brakes” SBPR.

The anecdotal evidence is that the initial brake bias is oriented towards the rear and the revised coding alters the brake response by making greater initial use of the sport brake front fixed calipers.

I would think that once you engage “brake assist” by quick hard braking, there will be enough of a ramp in braking pressure to engage anti-lock on all four wheels, assuming the brakes have sufficient capacity to dissipate the heat.

I'm not sure if this has already been covered, but has anyone confirmed if the new G01 2018 X3 M40i calipers and rotors will bolt up to the F25 X3 35i (2011-2017)?

I've been on the hunt for a front AND rear big brake kit for my 2017 X3 xDrive35i, but have been striking out... partially due to the electronic rear parking brake functionality.

On a related note, Ceika brakes ( https://ceika-store.com/ ) claims they are able to build a bolt-on front and rear BBK that will still allow use of the electronic rear parking brake for most cars. However, I've read mixed reviews on their kits and customer service, so I've been hesitant to be the guinea pig. Any thoughts?

Two questions..

1) Has anyone confirmed VO coding for “Sport brakes” will do any good?

2) What are some good brake rotors people used that improved braking power?

Also I have noticed that lighter wheels/tires help with corner braking on my Audi S4, I'm going to try finding lighter wheels for X3 and non-run flat tires.
