You will need a lift by minimum I had no idea how easy or hard this was going to be but when I saw the other X3 35i did it I asked him to give me as much info/detail as possible.
I'm sure my local shop can prob start making Modified Intercoolers if there's enough interest

I changed my mind. I'm going to try to fabricate some brackets to make it work. Would you mind pulling your belly pan and taking some photos of the bottom of yours? (Also some from the front through the grill might be helpful also.)

Thanks.

I can send some pictures now from the front, but will have to wait till Saturday for underneath pics.

I had to fab brackets to do mine. I ended up using 3/4" square aluminum tubing both to position the IC that much lower for fitment, as well as drilling it for holes for fasteners. Simple, but solid.

Ok cool. So 3/4" allowed the pipes to line up fine? So you must have drilled large holes in the bottom to reach the original screw heads, and holes directly across that were just large enough for the original screws? Then a single bolt in the middle for the new intercooler? If so did you tap and thread the tubing for the single new bolt?

What about the plastic bottom plate with rubber seal that pushes up against the stock intercooler? Did you cut it and reattach it farther forward?

Thanks.

Pretty much right. I didn't tap the tubing, just threw a nut inside of it to thread into for the new 'cooler. I angle cut the ends of the tubing. Longer on top, shorter on bottom, to give access to the original mounting holes on the core support on the chassis.

I had to hack up the rubber seal a fair amount, mostly at the sides where the end tanks are. I overdid it a little just to get the damn thing to squeeze in there. It made pretty good contact, but I resealed it all with 3M Blue plastic exterior duct/paint tape to ensure good air flow. It's my favorite new tape.

BTW, my Phoenix intercooler, while virtually identical, is just okay in terms of performance. Far better than stock, of course, but it still tracks 10* to 20* over ambient and will climb 30* to 40* over a long, hard pull to 120 or 130mph. It cools down pretty quickly, fortunately, but I imagine I'll be spraying meth at some point to compensate. If I had to purchase again, I'd get an ER Competition, I think.

Ok yeah angle cuts, I understand. Pretty simple. I have some metric rivnuts in a box somewhere that I used on my Nissan I think I'll use for mine for the center. I think I'm going to make a straight clean cut across the plastic a few inches forward of the intercooler and remount it back by drilling some holes through it and using the same screws that the undertray has. I'm trying to keep it easy to service in the future.

So are you running a BM3? I took a good look at these new FTP Motorsports boost and charge pipes I have and I'm really concerned about the boost pipe. The stock one has rubber bellows for flexing and the FTP one does not. The only flex point would be the silicone coupler at the turbo which is basically nothing. The factory put those bellows in there for a reason so I may just put the charge pipe on.

Yup I noticed the same my buddy on his 335GT had Phoenix and we were comparing temps and he said (of course I knew) that CTS Turbo was day and night better.

But the Phoenix, VRSF, Wagner, Active Autowerke, etc all look exactly the same as the CTS Turbo as if they are all knockoffs from China. Are they not?

I have been following this post to understand what FMIC would fit my 2013 X3 msport n55 engine. My local shop just fitted the Pheonix FMIC from BMS along with the F25 specific FTP charge pipe and boost pipes.
As well as the FMIC needing custom mounts and sitting a little lower the driver side 3 inch silicon coupling that came with the FTP pipes needed to be upgraded to a 6 inch coupling due to the extra distance to the lower FMIC.

So far so good. The torque seems to come in earlier and I no longer have that flat spot around 2700 rpm or that droning exhaust noise from the high flow muffler.

Interesting. Thanks for posting! Every week I go into the weekend planning on cutting my X3's intercooler plastic undertray back so I can install the new Intercooler and something always comes up.

I've got the 3/4" square tubing that hardparker advised about. Hardparker did you have to use a longer coupling to connect the charge pipe?

The Phoenix by far is the worse performing out of all in this list.
I have based my opinion on plenty of logs from various friends on street and dyno.

Which shop is that, I'm curious.

No, the intercooler ended up in very close to the stock location. No need to extend the charge pipe coupler at all. Other than the brackets, it did take a ton of hacking at the sealing shroud on the core support to get it finagled in there. Where necessary, I sealed any leaks between the shrouds and intercooler with exterior duct tape to promote as much flow as possible through the core.

Cool! Thanks for the pics!

You just had issue with the underneath plastic right? From staring a good bit at my stock intercooler installed through front bumper the left/right rubber seal/lips, it looks like the 'lips' will just have to be folded back a little but no cutting. Is that what you found?

I second FSociety on the front pics request!

I personally been with PTF/Bootmod3 for the past year worked with them in closed-beta and suggest you folks look at who has the most proven results and best platform.
20k miles hard-driven! My car went from 13.2@102 stock to 12.7@105 with JB4/E30 blend (1/4 tank) and now 12.5@110 on 93oct (half tank) with OTS Map

Key things to keep in mind
- Bootmod3 is the only with Resale value and license transfer (this is HUGE for me)
- Not to mention all the World Record cars with their tune have taken in the 1/4 mile

Ok that's all I needed to hear. I'm going forward with BM3.

However they still prefer sending in and unlocking right? Or should I wait to see what PTF comes up with unlocking via OBD?

Definitely wait a few more days maybe till Jan 2nd, in that last link they announced some HUGE new discoveries they were keeping quiet about so lots of nice surprises coming.

Once they release their OBD2 w/o needing to Bench you can decide which option will work best.

I'm sure Bench Flash will have its Pros, are you under warranty? What car? Year? Location and Octane?

Dang! That's huge, if that's true. First to market with an OBD tune, no? Cobb was the first with the E90 platform, but they gave up on the current one.

Do you have a link to this "last link" you refer to?
