So after a 7 month wait my new X4M has finally arrived!

I previously owned a 2019 X3M Comp in Toronto Red which I loved. I was looking to get an M3 but in the UK the deals for the X3 and X4 were so much better it was a no brainer.

Why the X4M over the X3M? My wife is getting an X3 and we don’t need two X3’s.

Next choice was colour and I like bright cars, but the choice came down to black with sakhir or the wild SPY with black. My daughter and wife both said go mad and go SPY so here it is!

It will take a little while to fully compare LCI to pre LCI bit mainly positives so far, especially exterior and interior.

Arrived at lunchtime! A little dusty from the journey so a quick clean and a polish. The paintwork is in epic condition with no swirls or marks. It’s got that BMW total care stuff which I’ll remove in due course and apply my own detailing.

Initial impressions:

1. Colour is epic in the flesh - so happy with it
2. Torque - much better lower down
3. Noise - fake noise is much better, seems louder and the gear change exhaust brrrps are great (in the UK we have OPF’s which restrict exhaust note so we rely more on fake noise )
4. Loving the retractable tow hook
5. Interior dash improvements are great over the 19 car are a good improvement
6. X4M over X3M… review to follow, but happy so far
7. Suspension - better than an LCI but marginal, could still be more compliant / quieter over broken surfaces
8. No CarPlay 😭😭
9. Conti’s 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Final thoughts given it’s been 5-6 weeks out of the X3M are that there’s a chasm between an M car and a non-M car. The 8er is lovely but they feel a world a part even in just steering and feel.

I’ve also just noticed that the car is running 1 bar over on all tyres so will sort that asap.

Pics taken after a quick was and a layer of the excellent Angelwax Enigma Ceramic wax.

Need to ceramic coat my wheels, windows and treat my seats next.

Let’s not talk about cleaning those wheels

Was your pre LCI on contis or michelins for the ride comparison? I've only experienced the LCI on michelins and was wondering how much stiffer the contis are. Congrats on the new ride.

Was seriously looking at SPY for a X4MC, but opted for a 2020 TRM instead.

Finally...congrats, Moff! color combo looks awesome! Your CarPlay is coming soon via OTA update... apparently BMW had to use a different chip and the software isn't quite ready yet. Hang in there!

Ballsy color that! Looks good.

I have the same issue with photos from my iPhone. Edit the photo, rotate 90 degrees and save. Then edit again and rotate back to the original way and save. It will then be the correct way up in your post. A bit of a faff but that’s the only work around that I’ve found.

I believe it is because the photos exceed a certain pixel or mb size. There are specifics on this when you're on the pic/attachment upload screen. Worked for my pics when I shrunk them down a bit.

Came on Conti's which were the first set. Then I changed to MP4S's so I know the difference.

It's BMWs OEM "Stealth Hitch" optioned it on my X3MC LCI, available on UK Specs but I don't think it was / is available on US builds, hence most of the US Crew who need to tow / Bike Rack, opt for the aftermarket "Stealth Hitch". Option cost was £800 GBP.

It’s been raining today so used another car as I’m mid detailing. Initially it felt similar but my tyres were all over inflated by over 1 bar. I’ve since lowered them and will get out as soon as I can.
