TPMS woes....

I just swapped my regular all-season wheels/tires back onto the car (removed winter tires). I can't get the darn iDrive TMPS readout to display Pressure and Temperature values - The units of measure (PSI and Deg F) are there but no values for any of the 4 wheels.

What to do??? (Both sets of wheels have working TPMS sensors).

When I switch my tires like your doing it might take a day or so for the on going tires this to work. This has happened the last few years

Thanks, although that just seems a bit odd. When I installed the winter tires few months ago as I recall they synced in like right away, hmm….

The set I just installed show 4 'green' (I.e. properly inflated tires), on iDrive display but no press/temp values…..so the sensors must be communicating with the car's brain..

I think the battery's in the sensors could be going. Only thing I can think of to cause my delay in communication.

One of the 4 batteries is only 6 months old, all we're talking when I pulled the wheels off last Fall….something else going on here.

Even though I am in the tire business and do a decent amount of TPMS work, I am not always 100% sure what causes them to register and when. In general, they have pretty aggressive battery management to make them last so they are not always broadcasting.

It has nothing to do with battery life, however. And typical of BMW (and Mercedes) they seem to be a little "extra" with customers reporting that when I put new tires on the car, not moving the wheel to a different corner, that it can take 5-20 miles for them to "reset". No other car does this, some will show the light and it clears by the end of the street.

Specific to the battery issue, on my own X3, I put brand new wheels and tires with brand new sensors and it did the same thing the OP reported. I did the reset thing and it took a few miles for it to read them at all, but even after it did, it did not show numbers until a day later.

I believe (can check later) there is a TPMS reset function in idrive - do that. I had to do that after a rotation so that the sensors and receivers match up correctly.

Did you check the coding, maybe it somehow reverted back to the default with no press/temp values

Yes, BimmerCode verified it's set to display press/temp….the units of measure are there on the iDrive screen, just missing the actual data

Do you have sensors in the wheels? If so you need to code it to see the data, if not, you'll never see press/temp data.

You need a coding device or phone app (and wireless adapter to plug into cars OBD port). Look up BimmerCode in App Store, that will enable you to code this tire pressure/temp display functionality.

I believe if you go on the BimmerCode site there are recommended compatible adapter models listed.

The reason I asked if you have TPMS sensors in the wheels is that some markets don't have them and instead use the ABS system, but you say they're "working fine" so I'll assume you know for sure that you have them

Chains have been reported to fail at all different mileages, including much lower than yours.
