Your BG looks awesome in LCI, congrats.

I know there are some after-market brands available but I want to stay OEM so appreciated danniexi doing all of the LCI research. I would think there should be similar OEM items for the iD6 2020 models but TBH haven't looked into them for mine.

I have a 2021 X3 MC. So it has the iD7. These OEM units are no longer available. But I happen to know of a place with a few left.

Was loading supplies outside a store today, and someone literally stopped mid-stride to come over to share how much they liked my wife's LCI and the color. May have sold another BMW today (or actually, they sell themselves)...

An image getting ready for another trip, and then one from the FL Panhandle (about 30 mi NNE of Cat 5 Hurricane Michael's landfall back in Oct 2018) with the sun's angle highlighting the new carbon steering wheel trim.

I have noticed that quite a few people will come up and say how nice the car is, or enquire what model it is. As there aren’t that many on the roads, (haven’t seen another one in the flesh), people are quite impressed. Even more so when its the wife driving it

I have to say that steering wheel looks the dogs Bo***x. I’m tempted to get one later. Just a bit wary of removing the air bag.

Agreed. I've been surprised that even non-Enthusiasts seem to be equally drawn to it. And I enjoy sharing info about them so maybe it helps plant the seed of future ownership some day.

And apologies I didn't share info on the CFRP trim install in my earlier post. I simply provided my SA with a few of danniexi's images and the part numbers and they did everything - ordered the parts, scheduled the 1 hr svc appt, and did the install while I enjoyed a few cups of fresh-brewed coffee and breakfast bars in their lounge. Suspect if you texted your SA with the image I put together in post #194 they can make it happen pretty easily - https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...&postcount=194

It was a few hundred or so dollars more that route c/w DIY, but worth every penny as the air bag is off-limits for me as well.

takes one hour at most. super simple to do and is basically the same as any other BMW steering wheel install… disconnect the battery, jam the screwdriver into steering wheel, pop out the airbag and unplug wiring, undo a few torx bits, remove, install.

so you have a 2021 iD7; basically the same trim but without the drivers assistant package. you want this one: 32-30-2-459-671

bmwpartspros and getbmwparts have them. you can find them anywhere pretty easily tbh.

The main differences will be the 'torque increase' and the wheel weights, so am interested in seeing how it plays out...
Finally was able to get to GNV Raceway for a Saturday morning 'All Welcome Test-n-Tune' yesterday. They haven't held one in a number of months, and as it's the last one for the year it was packed so only got 5 runs in. And so much for cooler temps with low DAs (it was in the +1400 to +1800 range the entire day). Added 5 gal ($11/gal) of Sunoco 260GT (100 Oct) to 10 gal of Marathon 93 and some Octane booster to try to help out, but prob was only around 97 Octane. The PS4S now have 10,600 miles of wear on them as we took them off her trade-in when the LCI came with the Contis.

Four of the five runs were solid 11.8xxs with one outlier at 12.012 in Lane 1 where I had to drive through water draining from the water box. Best was 11.818s at 117.78 mph with a 0-60 ft 1.841s. As forza1976 has shared in the past (and others), the wheels were spinning even in 2nd transition.

It felt strong throughout and TBH thought for sure it was in the 11.6xxs range. Disappointed I wasn't able to formally confirm breaking the 11.6s barrier, but it will, no doubt. The negative influences were the DA, tires with 10,600 miles wear, non-maximized octane, still trying to figure out the tire psi, and long wait times between runs (1-1/2 hours) so are engine/oils temps at ideal LC conditions...

All the data will be posted in the 1/4 mile thread for those interested in the details - https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1444613 .

Have to also share that a number of Drivers (and even a few Spectators in the Stands who came to the Staging Lanes) commented how much they enjoyed watching her run, and couldn't believe the times 'for a truck'.

Fun times in the F97!

you could def hit better numbers if you can get that 60ft down. clearly traction limited.

impressive numbers nonetheless!! well done!

Thanks. Still trying to figure out tire psi after 30 runs at the Strip. Unfortunately it's usually so busy there aren't many chances to vary it, and the DA/air temps have varied between events so hard to find a pattern yet. I'll keep trying. Looking at the launches from the Photographer's images the rear is def squatting with the front lifting so I'm not sure how much front psi matters (at least through the first 200 feet or so) despite xDr.

My dealer has said that the carbon steering wheel won’t fit my car because and I quote:

“Because you have the active cruise control function where you have an led strip on the steering wheel, this would not be an option on your car unfortunately”.

Is that right? Or is the parts guy talking out of his a**e?

This LED Strip (shown as I engaged active Backup Asst right now)? Maybe they looked up the incorrect part numbers? As long as your steering wheel looks like danniexi's and mine, we can assure them it does work (unless your UK specs are different)...

Cheers. Mine is identical. The service team have agreed to order it and see if it fits. They just said the part number wasn’t listed against my model.

It makes me sick that I did not have those rims on my 2020 X3MC. If you ever get tired of them you know who to contact for a trade to the V spokes!

Two routes you can go, so depends if you want to DIY or let the Dealer do it.

You can just send the composite image I put together ( https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...&postcount=194 ) to your SA, and they'll order, schedule the appt and do the install. That's what I did, and it was worth the few hundred dollars more to me.

If you wish to DIY like danniexi did, he ordered his from eBay early on ( https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...9&postcount=63 ), but later indicated they should also be available by Forum sponsored vendors bmwpartspros and getbmwparts ( https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...1&postcount=67 ).

It's worth checking if your local dealership also has an online parts store. Mine does and offers free in-store pickup and it's 7 miles away.

Well I had the steering wheel trim fitted. It has made the horn pretty hard to press to make a sound, but it fitted. Technician just reckoned it’s a little thicker than the original trim, hence the need to really push the horn to get it to sound.

Looks great, @Spoonhead. Thanks for the heads-up on the horn, as I probably only use once a year, but good to know. I checked my wife's and the right side of the wheel is exactly like my pre-LCI, but the left side does take some more pressure. Might be interesting to see if there is a pattern here, so is your issue both sides of the wheel or only one side? The UK fitting shouldn't have any influence on this. And maybe danniexi and V8MAN (who performed DIY) can comment on their carbon wheel upgrades as well.
