BREAKING NEWS!!! Rear Sway bar mount bolt backing out!!!

Guys,

This is important, just found out from local customer that I've been trying to troubleshoot the rear suspension noise issue.

We removed the MSS spring and put back to stock, still some noise.
Dealer blame the suspension before even diagnosing it.

Just now, customer about to trade in the car and taking off the aftermarket wheel, customer saw that the rear sway bar bolt is backed out for about 1/2".

Out of curiosity, I also checked my rear sway bar mount.
And found out that mine also backed out by mm.
So, for you guys safety, I would have dealer to fix it or hire a shop to get it secured by putting a dab of blue loc-tite on the bolt.

Here are the pictures.

Update 10/24/20 - tool to use is E-Torx 12 (recommended) or 12-points 10mm.
Due to its spacing, a wrench is the best tool that can fit in there.
It seems like there is rivet nut pressed to the sub-frame, so there will be washer like piece below the sway bar bracket.

So many little issue with this vehicle, it's getting somewhat worry some and kind of annoying. Another thing to add to the list of "things to look out for"

Clunk from the rear.
Yea, he tightened it back, but he doesn't have blue loc-tite.

I might fix mine today. I'll document it better.

Waiting with interest as I have a noise on the rear nearside of my car the dealer has had it back twice still got the noise.

Out of interest did your customer have the cluck all the time and can you see the bar without removing the wheel?

Yes, clunk all the time when hit bumps and dips.

Here is the picture through the wheel.

Maybe also paint a line on the bolt head and the bracket so that any movement of the bolt would be detectable before it backs out enough for there to be visible separation?

Ok, I just checked mine.
Mine actually tight. There is some sort of rivet nut to the sub-frame for the bolt.

Tool size is E-Torx 12, but due to its spacing, you can use 12-points 10mm wrench.

I'll update the first post.

There should be a sticky at this point. I have this on my short list to replace the F80, and these niggling things keep making me second guess that...

i dont think that this engine is forged either as the connecting rod from the s58 engine comes from the f10 which is the same as the f90 and they are not at all forged. the pistons have been treated not forged the only thing that is forged is the crankshaft
it was forged it would take 1100hp

They can't, because there will be more complaints about stiff suspension and loud exhaust.

Every time I drive mine wether it be mechanical or trim it seems to have a new creak, thud or some other noise, by the time my 4 year deal is up it will just be a bag of bits in a bag.

Not impressed with build quality for what is supposed to be a flagship M car.

Indeed Steve, I don't want to upset our American hosts but I've had 13 BMWs and this is the first built outside Germany and they appear to be throwing them together at Spartanburg, they clearly have issues at that plant that need addressing.

I'm going to chop the X3M in for something new next year and one built in Germany by people who care.
