Used car prices are ridiculous these days. Whatever you have, if you need it keep it; if you don't, you can likely sell for a profit.

I was looking at diesel X5's but the prices are several grand higher than they were last year! I guess I'll keep my X3d for a while longer yet, which has been extremely reliable btw. Only preventive maintenance so far in 25k miles (bought at 49k) and a new set of tires and brakes last year.

Any N20 owners have anything new to report, pushing almost 10years on the X3.

my 2012 X3 35i has been pretty reliable aside from the typical glove box peel, and engine oil gasket leaks common with all bmws.

I just completed a 8500 mile journey around the US in my X3 over the course of a month and only suffered an intermittent DTC error due to a bad ignition coil but I was able to drive through it. Ive done a few 1000-2000 mile road trips without any issue as well.

The only non warranty items I've had on my 2015 X3 are the instrument cluster and battery. And batteries/tires wear out.

Recall for the EGR Cooler, which could cause an engine fire, that took about a month to get the parts in. And warranty diesel sensor repair.

More reliable so far than the previous car I had, an Infiniti.

I have a '16 28i with almost 70K and not a problem - I do take the advice of others here, and have done the preventative maint

93k on my wife's '16 28i and it's on its second turbo. The original started going out at 70k miles and it was replaced under the CPO warranty. So 23k miles on the new turbo and so far so good. Just knocked on some wood.

Everything else seems to be fine, apart from one of the angel eyes turning yellow.

Not sure if you owning yours for a few months counts much toward reliability, but it's good to know you didn't have a problem in those few months you've owned it

I'm an N20 28i x3 owner and I've done the rear differential seals (left and right), some suspension work, not sure what exactly, my dad got this done at a shop, I got all fluids flushed (transmission, engine, brake fluids, coolant) and recently had to get a new thermostat.

I'm at 135,000KM (84,000miles) at the moment. The N20 motor running strong as long as you maintain the car at the right time. Change the fluids, keep it clean, change spark plugs and filters accordingly and use clean gas.

I have a 2012 X3 with 98000 miles, at it's recent MOT they had to change a rear coil spring on the driver side. Also, recently starting experiencing a weird issue where the wipers will randomly come on and I am unable to turn them off. They have a mind of their own. It is a very frustrating issue, but given the lack of info online I don't think this is a very common fault.

Aside from those issues, and given the age of the car and mileage, I'm very pleased.

No issues on my 2016 X3 35 X-drive (N55) with 36K miles on it. Had a 2008 and 2011 and both had leaky valve cover gaskets as the only issues.

At that point sell or keep given car pricing these days, at 40k miles from new, but car is old now.

Since responding to this thread three years ago, my X3d now has almost 70K miles and continues to be virtually trouble free. About a year ago, two injectors were replaced under warranty. Brake pads and tires were also replaced. The latter were not completely gone, but I was eager to get rid of those OE GY run flats.

My only regret is that BMW dropped diesels and finding a replacement as nice as the X3d will be difficult.

To chime in here….’11 x28i, 156K miles, just did the diff fluid, transfer case fluid, and transmission fluid (drain and fill). Replaced plugs at 130K, oil every 7500 with 5w-40 for higher mileage. I need to replace control arms in the near future, but other than that, with proper maintenance, very solid.

2017 X3 3.5I

62K January, 2021- Valve cover gasket leaked on exhaust causing smoke.

68K August, 2021-Com Box upgrade under warranty

70K October, 2021-Rear gate lock actuator replaced

72K December, 2021-Rear Wheel bearings replaced

Currently at 73K, there is a clicking sound coming from the right front, most likely lower control arm/Ball joint worn. Coolant pump still operating normally.

Same. The F25 has been serving me well and has been my new daily driver since I stopped driving the M3 as much.

Great car to scoot around town in and do daily errands. Love the space.

Around 120,000km I had to change the HPFP as that failed on me, bought a part from FCP euro and installed it myself. All is well. Done coils and spark plugs while I was there. Nothing else.

Purchased my 2013 X3 xDrive35i M Sport (N55) in 2019 with about 94k miles on the clock at the time and it's served me very well but left me stranded just one time.

Currently, I just passed 126k miles and it's been on numerous road trips in my ownership.
I have always changed the oil every 3-4k miles with Castrol 5w-40.

Did all the recommended services such as Transmission fluid, both differentials, transfer case fluid, brake fluid, and spark plugs about a year after I had purchased it. (So approx. 110k miles)

Now, for the issues it brought me

After a few months of ownership, at 99,075 miles my water pump had gone out at a bad time, on the freeway on the way to the airport to pick up my sister. The engine started overheating and had to pull over to the shoulder.

My boost solenoid started showing symptoms of it failing. First, it would make a constant wheezing noise coming from the exhaust side of the engine. I replaced it before any other issues occurred.

I purchased the car with a leaky valve cover gasket and luckily the dealership gave me a discount so I could have it fixed. Little did he know I would do it myself instead and save some money. I put off the repair for a while until the point where the smoke would enter the cabin and would almost suffocate me if I don't roll down the windows.

Leaking expansion tank, resulting in a low coolant warning every few weeks after topping off as the coolant was leaking from the sensor on the bottom of the tank.

To conclude, I love driving this vehicle and it is my daily driver and I can say it's a quite reliable machine if taken care of. Also, enjoy the retrofits I've done to it such as CarPlay, Rear Fog Lamp, and LCI climate control.

Eccentric shaft sensor took a crap around 94k miles on 2014 N20. Had the timing chain done while car was at mechanic preventatively. Told me he found pieces of chain guide. Dealership did their timing chain check a couple thousand miles ago and said no problems. I know their test is to be taken with a grain of salt, just thought I'd mention.

Not sure what my X3's future is as I've moved on to a different brand for most of my other cars and I like sticking to one company. I think N55 is definitely the way to go.
