Car: 2012 X3 28i / 93K miles

During this past winter I experienced the above message 2 to 3 times when driving in freezing/sub-freezing temps. A couple of times the car gave the warning but the steering effort remained normal, once however the steering stiffened up quite a bit. Couple of weeks ago it was near freezing when I was in local mountains - message and stiff steering again.

Every time this occurred I was able to 'clear' the message by either turning ignition on/off or clearing codes with BimmerLink, one time the car 'corrected' itself without an intervention on my part. BimmerLink showed NO permanent errors; errors only showed in the 'info' error category. This steering error was accompanied shortly after with errors related to dynamic stability control, cruise control was also automatically disabled.

These errors have ONLY occurred in cold weather.

Any insight on this?
Thanks/Bill

no real insight / help here, but just curious... how old is your 12v battery?

New AGM battery installed/coded < 3 years ago. Think it's something else, it's an intermittiment issue and only ever occurred in the COLD weather. Battery is possibility but I think unlikely.
