Weird Problems After Changing 20" Wheels to 21"

I just changed my 20” wheels to 21” 765M (X3MC) wheels.

I’ve noticed two things:
1. I have squeaks and groans when turning that weren’t there previously. Anything I can look at to see what is going on?

2. When reversing with the wheels turned all the way I get a weird bucking or locking up of the wheels. Almost like the diffs are locking up and having trouble.

Subbed since I’ll be doing this in a week or two, although with both sets being aftermarket

This is the first time I’ve seen a member have this issue tbh

1. Don’t know

2. I get this on my factory fit 21’s when turning at slow speed more so when the tyres are cold. It’s normal, it’s called the Ackermann effect. https://www.longacreracing.com/artic...t/Ackerman.pdf

Cant comment on the squeaks and groans.
Might be worth systematically spraying WD40 on suspension bushings one at a time and see if that's it.
Might be a dry bush. I had a jag which drove me crazy with it.
(obvious but have you checked wheel nut torque?)

I get the ackerman effect with wheel skipping on certain surfaces going forwards and backwards with 20" wheels.

You know, funny you mentioned the torque because this is the first time I used a torque wrench to tighten the wheel nuts (to 140nm spec) will have to see what happens if I back it off a bit.

Why would you back it off a bit? Pretty risky to test that theory lol

140nm or 103ft lbs is the correct spec.

Because it feels like arguably more force than my previous method of “uh yeah, that feels about right”

Also using a digital torque adapter so god knows how well that works.

So what you are describing is similar to what I feel as well with my aftermarket wheels and i'm lowered. With my stock 699m wheels, no issues whatsoever.

A lot can be at play. My hf-5s are wrapped with ps4s and on a cold day if I happen to back out of a parking spot with full lock, I will feel the tire skip. With a slight counter steer, it goes away. After I warm the tires up and try to replicate the skipping again, its far less noticeable.

What tires/size do you have on them? I believe with a wider and lower profile tire, this issue is more pronounced. I will test again after I get an alignment in the coming week.

Edit: It would be more beneficial to use a dedicated wheel torque wrench. An adapter is fine for smaller applications but I personally wouldn't use it on lug bolts.

I'm chicken. Anything that causes the diffs to bind is not a good thing long term IMO.
