I don't understand why it took them this long. The current M-Sport steering wheel doesn't look that sporty. The one in the 3-series and X5 is the real deal. My other half loves it and I'm even contemplating retrofitting one.

But, I suspect since the major telecoms are phasing out 3G, BMW wants to get all products moved over to LTE. |

It seems like it's just the menu layout which will be side by side tiles according to a press release. Don't know about the new idrive controller and doubt there will be touchscreen. Anyone can confirm or update on this please?

Thanks for the reply and document Harroldv. For those interested, here is the relevant information from the press release. It's still rather ambiguous, as it is unclear if the new controller and touch screen will be available:
BMW X3 and BMW X4: extended standard equipment, new equipment lines, innovative options. From April 2016 the standard equipment of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 will also include multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers and Cruise Control with Braking function. And new equipment lines will create additional scope for individualisation. The range of variants available as an alternative to standard specification will include the new Advantage model alongside the xLine and M Sport models. The Advantage model will include Park Distance Control (PDC) with sensors at the front and rear, two-zone automatic climate control, the storage package and, in the case of the BMW X3, also automatic tailgate operation (already part of standard equipment for the BMW X4 Sports Activity Coupe). The Chestnut Bronze metallic shade will be introduced as a new exterior paint finish for the BMW X3 and BMW X4. And new variants will also be added to the selection of optional light-alloy wheels. New equipment options available for both models include telephony with wireless charging and the wi-fi hotspot function. Working together with the optional Navigation system Professional, the iDrive operating system now also offers innovative menu graphics for the Control Display in the BMW X3 and BMW X4, using tile symbols arranged side-by-side |
