My M40i's been into the shop for 12 days so far waiting on a part from Germany. They gave me a X3 for the 1st week and then asked for it back (they sold it). Put me in a new X5 which only makes me want my M40i back.

X1 X3 (2) X5 (3 - gas, diesel, and electric) X3 M40i All '18 models. When I half-joked that they could just swap us for the M40, after two weeks, that's exactly what they did. A no-cost swap |

The dealership I go to only has 320i and 330i. They were short rentals a couple weeks ago and had a Mini to spare. I actually liked buzzing around town in it for a few hours. The best I've got has been a while ago and it was a tie between a 528i and i3.

This is likely more of a dealership vs BMW.
My dealership will loan me anything on their lot that is a demo or used. I always try to go up a class from what I drive or go with a different manufacturer so I can pick out my next car. My dealership has BMW, Porsche, Range Rover and Volvo. |

My dealership usually tries to get me in an equivalent series or higher.
Over the years I have had mostly 3ers, 5ers, X3s, and X5s, an X1 once or twice, and an M235i vert. The two times I have taken the G01 in, I got one X6 and one X3. |

Has to do with the dealer size.

First time my wife took her merc in to get her command center display fixed, they gave her a base Hyundai accent. She was FUMING, and after an afternoon of complaining, they finally prepped a wagon version of her car. she took it, but still wasn't happy. Consider her car was a 70k vehicle.
She took it to a different dealer for her first oil change, and they handed her keys to same model (but sedan) of her car, without blinking an eye. I think some dealers just try to nickel and dime you. IMO, whatever type of car you get (at the VERY LEAST brand wise) is the type of loaner you should get. especially if you own a luxury brand. |
