Not necessarily an "advance", but I expect the S58 will switch to the 82mm bore / 94.6 mm stroke of the B58 (N55/S55 are 84 mm bore / 89.6mm stroke).

At some point BMW will probably move their inline engines to 48V mild hybrid, belt-less like Mercedes is (starting with their new M256) but that's not likely to happen this decade unfortunately.

Exactly! If BMW wanted the vehicle lowered, they would engineer it that way from the factory.

I highly doubt it will be that much, I would bet on $70K starting price, significantly lower than Alfa and Jaguar, but probably about the same as GLC63 (non S).

now if you build it up to what the Alfa and Jaguar come standard with including comp package, then it will be $80K (and over for sure depending on options). Right now you can price a M3 from $67K to well over $80K...

that is probably how they will justify 450-475 hp vs the 500+ of competitors, lower starting price.

I respectfully suggest your supposition is incorrect - a fair number who purchase in this genre need the cargo volume. Although the ground clearance is icing on the cake, and it may need to go offroad for supplies or locations desired, not everybody is purchasing one to hit the mountain trails.

Price point aside (and as one reaches this echelon it does/should become less of a factor), the weight of the F-Pace S is 4,102 lbs, with the G01 4,230 and similar dimensions and Cd. The F-Pace has 34.0 cu ft cargo vol as well. The X5M is 5,260 lbs and thus in a completely different class. So is the X6M at 5,200 lbs. Why would one purchase a vehicle weighing 1,000 lbs more when the cargo volume and other requirements meet one's expectations? That some don't need the comfort seats and amenities which the X5/6 offer, with plus/minus interior cabin room, but still want the performance and need 25-30 cu ft cargo vol, the X3 fits that bill exactly.

Could care less what the Macan Turbo costs - $60K vs $100K - would not enter into the equation. It is a great small-size performance 'SAV', but until it's back end can carry what those zero'ed in on a Performance SAV with carrying needs requiring a Cargo Vol minimum 25 cu ft, it can remain with the GLC and Alfa. Right now, it seems the only options are the SQ5 (26.8 cu ft), New Cayenne Turbo (23.6 cu ft and 4,454 lbs), XC60 T8 (29.4 cu ft), although the Urus is getting close at 21.8 cu ft.

You are comparing apples to oranges I believe.
See my correction above. I mistakenly used Jags UK price, which is $104,205 USD.

Bwahaha... yes! Me too. I swear, people's dicks must be getting smaller and smaller, because I don't know wdf needs more than 475HP on the track let alone the streets. Make it RWD, make it light, make it sound good, make it reliable and handle like a beast, and give us a real f***ing reason to bother buying an M SUV in the first place.

I've been hard pressed to find a non-barebones GTS under $80k, let alone a turbo. Doesn't take much to get there. Dealer even had a GTS optioned to $100k.

X3M will likely come in under the Turbo by a bit and outperform it, similar to the M40i/GTS relationship. The wild card is a pending Macan redesign.

Expect the Macan Turbo to receive the VAG corporate 2.9L biturbo. Currently it maxes out at ~450hp, but I suspect they’ll find 10% more power in the future. Whether that happens first with the Macan refresh is hard to say.

Redesign? Isn't that like 4-5 years away?
Refresh in 2 years maybe.

I'm not as tuned into the VAG timelines as I am BMW and Mercedes, but there are mule spy shots, and it looks to me like there are a number of sources that think its coming this year for MY2019. We'll see. Even if it is next year, that basically puts it on the market at the same time as the F97.

Shhhh. We are trying to get BMW to give the X3M 500 HP. Not to make it faster than a Jaguar SVR...but the Stelvio QV!

As long as they get the 0-60 under 4.0s flat on 91octane lol
I'm not worried on the HP numbers, give me less weight in the car better turbo, better suspension, better tires, better seats, last but not least BETTER SOUND than the S55.
