12/16/2016 Update: New video

The world keeps moving forward and BMW is set to deliver a new car for a niche market. That niche is the people who were driving E46M3s and E90M3s a few years ago and used the car successfully to rope in a women and then had kids. Forcing them to be stuck with an X3 xDrive28i... well theres now an answer for us, erhm, I mean 'those people'...

We had previously seen the elusive X3M testing in spain but now we get to see it in action on the famed Nurburgring.

And WOW. It looks flat and stiff and generally FAST. Its about time BMW graced us with such a vehicle.

While this M SAV is designated as an FXX car, its actually based on the upcoming G01, the third generation BMW X3, which is set to hit the market next year. The base G01 is set to be a major upgrade from the current F25 X3 which big improvement in the interior and exterior styling, while retaining the overall dimensions. The F97 X3M which will be based on the G01 should be revealed shortly after the base G01 is shown, but as of now is thought to hit the streets no sooner then 2018 (hoping that changes...).

With so much investment in an M model for the X3, there is surely to be a an X4 M derivative as well (F98)

Heres a nice easter egg for anyone thats really paying attention. These prototypes are riding on Schmidt Racing Wheels. For all you "old-school" BMW fans, its quite interesting to see a moden BMW undergoing factory testing that is riding on such aftermarket wheels from 'the past'. My glass is half full side of me takes this as a signal that this X3M will be 'the real deal'

I hope the exhaust pipes are bigger on the actual production car. Usually I find, in general, M cars exhaust pipes to be too small, but those belong to a golf R.

On a side note, the F90 M5 ones are noticeable bigger than usual, which is nice.

Let's see how the standard X3 comes out. I think that after the G30, the X3 it's the next one in BMW's line up, and it seems that it will set the design templates for the next X's to come, so I'm looking foward to it.

Hard to tell from the video, but that doesn't sound like an S55 (at least to me).

Since the x3 is about the same size as the E53 x5. It only makes sense they make one

Pretty funny intro...

Even funnier cause its true for me.

I went from being single and buying an E46 330Ci...then got married within 6 months.

Bought the wife an E83 X3 3.0; and then kept hearing about why our 2-door coupe is impractical.

So instead, I switched to an E90 M3.

Win, win!

The M3/4 pipes are pretty big too.. e9x M3 pipes were disappointingly tiny

I like everything about my 350 HP SQ5 except that it's an Audi with awful steering and the most short shifting tranny in existence in D mode (maybe part of the new emissions scandal?). Not sure I need or want 450 HP in my small SUV but wouldn't hurt I suppose. The $70k+ pricetag that the X3M will probably carry will hurt though.

HOLY MOLY! A modern car that does not fart when it shifts. This looks like it's going to be fun to drive.
