@MdW86 - only through contact with the dealer/sa. Iīm wondering, if he is going to tell me about the suspended production. As for the engine - same as you did, 20i. Also thinking about changing to 30i.. but probably leave it as it is.
My dealer showed me a letter that they have recieved from BMW explaining the delay. Therefore i'm almost certain that your dealer must be aware of the matter.

Im also considering upgrading to the 30i. Can this still be changed in a production slot, or can you only add or remove options in a slot?

@ND40oz: All diplomatic sales in the Netherlands must be ordered at BMW Den Haag. BTW mine is not a diplomatic sale.

That interesting restriction, I wonder how it applies to non-EU built vehicles though.

Since the X3 is built outside of the EU, as long as you're legally allowed to import one, it shouldn't matter where it is purchased from. I ordered it through a German dealer, but I still had to take it to the zoll office myself and clear it through customs into Germany.

If it's not a Diplomatic sale, than obviously that will not apply.

Special sales in Netherlands can be made only in BMW Den Haag. You can buy a car under special conditions in every EU dealer, thatīs for sure.

Are you confirming there is only one BMW dealer in the Netherlands with the ability to make diplomatic sales but you can make diplomatic purchases from any dealer in the EU that has the ability to do BMW diplomatic sales?

Iīve got a message from my dealer. Finaly Iīve got a production number, but still not a production week (is that the same as production slot?). Which I think mean, that also a delivery time cannot be determined. Not a single word about any delays or something. Maybe he just donīt want to share this with me for some reason

@MdW86 - you asked about possible changes - he didnīt confirmed that change of the engine is still possible, but another changes are. BTW, price difference between 20i and 30i is quite much, so we stick with the 20i.

Update: the dealer informed me that all the 20i order are now (re)scheduled based on the date of order (the Netherlands). Current code is 112 (before 105, before that 112). The production of my order starts 13 weeks later that originally planned, so the delay for my order is 13 weeks.

I ordered the car in Nov 17, but the production slot dated Oct. 17. Current delivery time is the end of June.

Production of 30i and 40i engines has yet to be planned. For this reason upgrading from a 20i slot to a 30i will mean that the order would delay further.

BMW NL has offered me a (new) 5series touring as a rental for about 500 euros per month. Dealer said all NL customers will be offered this. Its a start, but I'm not sure what to think...Any thoughts?

Seems like you have a better dealer than me. Did he inform you by himself or you asked? Would you mind sharing where you ordered? Is that a special order (diplo/mili)? Sorry for asking, if you wrote that already. Just want to know, if I came across wrong person or place.

In my opinion, they should offer something for free, not asking more money.

reason for the delay

The article was posted 17th of January. Looks like BMW is not honest to their customers not telling them about this.

Its an offer from the Dutch importer of BMW (not the dealer of BMW AG). I was told this will be offered to all customers who its concerns.

Edit: I've a regular sale.

Today I recieved my VIN. The car is currently being produced and will be deliverd in the last week in June. So no further delay Untill then I'll be driving the 5 touring (g31) that BMW NL gave me last month.

We change the engine for 30i, but bmw somehow messed that up and sended us a VIN for 20i. So we contacted the dealer, what is going on. He was surprised too. He was proposing to give us the 20i with discount, or keep the 30i but with production in July. I don't understand why that late, but we decided to stick with 30i.

Too bad, that will add another two months for delivery. I had some doubt about the 20i, but since im driving the g31 with (the same) 20i engine all that doubt is gone. It feels much faster than my old 2012 f30 20i and the engine is much smoother. No lack of power even though I consider myself a fast driver.

I gladly wait given the problems I read here. steering wheel vibration issue, 3 or 4 recalls, self-opening tailgate,...

We got a discount on the 30i, so there was not a big price difference.

Hopefully your car will arrive as expected
