Yes, got it on the 9th and driven around 250-miles now of mixed roads - Motorways, A-Roads, B-Roads and some town driving.
It's... well... an SUV. Very comfortable, lots of nice toys, high quality interior (other than a rattle or two), carries lots of stuff, good ride, looks quite good for an SUV and has surprisingly good grip levels. The HUD is brilliant, the HK stereo sounds great and the advanced parking camera pack is super impressive. I've yet to figure out the point of Sport/Sport+ as I always change gear with the paddles. What you gain with slightly reduced roll in Sport/Sport+, you lose on wheel control on any road that isn't perfectly smooth. The shift isn't much faster (if at all) in Sport/Sport+. The accelerator being more sensitive and the steering heavier doesn't add any value. So I just leave the car in Comfort mode, partly as I like the dash in that setting more. It's certainly quick, but other than being the one pressing the loud pedal and aiming the car... it's pretty dull. It's capable, fast and entirely un-involving. Very much just point and shoot, whereupon the car gathers speed rapidly and that's it. I'm OK with this as I've got a 992 911 on order for next year which will be my fun car. I needed to replace the M2 with something more suited for family duty and the X3 does exactly this. Though I would probably have been just fine with a lower model. I didn't want to say anything bad about the car as people on the forum really seem to like their X3's. Which is great that they are. I'm happy with everything on mine except driver involvement. Which is so marginal I think that if I had to drive it every day I'd be longing for self-driving cars to arrive. Maybe it will grow on me. |

Ordered X3 20th of oct, bit of a hassle to get a clear schedule but right now as it stands, SA told us that car would be built first week of December but received the VIN from bmw a couple days ago “vehicle has been stamped with vin and is in production” so it seems to be going nicely. Shipping is estimated to take 7 weeks from Rosslyn (we were told USA, but it ended up being SA, doesn’t really matter)
Delivery estimated to be in January/February at this point. Nice new year’s present |

The logistics company handling it from possibly Bremerhaven to the dealer, or from port of entry in Sweden (Halmstad) to dealer, sucks big time. Even the dealer agrees and use quite some language to express his feelings about them. It should not take this much time (Sep06 to Dec07), to get a car delivered. Feels like the whole thing is a bit fishy, and that the car is jinxed. It's registration number starts with JNX...

Spoke with online chat just now. Car is at "Confirmed by production control" status.
But they still expect week 5 delivery, which matches what dealer originally said. Seems ages between build and delivery |

Mine was ordered 30 October and I was informed that it was 5200 Paintshop Start last Thursday which is beyond 'confirmed by production control' - likely both will be on the same boat which takes 3-4 weeks to transit.

I was gonna do one of those long winded "I got my wheels" threads but I think people are getting bored now. So I thought I'd just update on the UK side.
Got my M40d Monday, but garaged the bugger straight away to wax twice (I'm too much of a tight ass to fork out for ceramic so did meguiars liquid wax * 2) over a day for which, when you consider how shit modern UK garages are, you would commend :-) Anyhow got her out last night and went for a blast. I'm not really into run in these days so just nailed it. First impressions, it's VERY quite in contrast to the 35d I had, and it's way quick. I mean it just feels all so lovely and connected up, the suspension, the power surge, the stopping surge :-) Not got to grips with that lane keeping assistant, people around me would say I was pissed. If there was a dibble around he'd definitely have pulled me over. I could dwell on about having heated wheel back (and the button being in a totally sensible place this time), the display, the whole look and feel of the dash, the speed (managed to get up to 110mph on a lonely country road and it was soo quite and stable and got there without me realising). But to sum it up ... it's f**king awesome. Oh, and I was worried about the once you had black thing and this time getting phytonic? It looks WAY better in person (in the dingy UK winter light) than on the photos. I'm going to love this car. The only issue is when it gets its first scratch from some idiot in a car park or whatever. Once I get past that worry all good ;-) |

X3 20i mSport ordered October 20th, manufactured November 23rd and got message from dealer this Monday that the car is going to be shipped from SA as soon as the “paperwork” is done. Could take a max of 6 weeks, which would mean February delivery. Not too bad! Hoping for January though :P

Delivery now quoted as week 4. Found this out via online chat who have been very helpful, aside from the automated emails from BMW I haven't had any contact from the salesman.....

Have been monitoring the ship that holds my X3 now. It went Durban > Port Elizabeth > Cape town > Accra > Abidjan > Dakar and I am very happy to see that now it is going straight to Bremerhaven and will be there January 13th!
Does anyone have an idea how long the PDI will take at Bremerhaven? Once the PDI is complete I don't think delivery to my dealer will take very long, Where I live is only about 3 hours away by car from Bremerhaven.
