Isn't the Evoque considerably smaller than the X3? The last one was and the new one is the same size, although the longer wheelbase makes it slightly more roomy than before. I guess it depends how much you need the extra space, although personally I'd never pay that amount of money for an Evoque.

Has JLR sorted the DPF issue on the new Evoke? On diesel models because the engine was transverse, with no space near engine for the DPF, it is downstream in the exhaust and there have been reports of it not getting hot enough to regenerate. So the engine gets injected with extra diesel to force a DPF re-gen but the diesel can and does sink down the bores into the sump. The result has been oil changes at 5k miles - lots on Honest John website.
This problem is not so prevalent on the F Pace as engine is longitudinal, but with reports of so many electrical and other issues on a £50k Evoke, I felt quality control and other detail was lacking. May have been addressed now. I was also concerned that some JLR dealers were dismissing owner problems as 'characteristics of the car'. All in all it was disappointing as I am a former Jaguar employee (30 years back), so current purchase schemes don't benefit me. While initially I was after an F Pace and also test drove an E Pace (no opening sun roof but v nice), F Pace (2.0 which was good) and Evoke, the latter I found dated inside and it felt stodgy driving. Not a fan of the rotary gear selector either. Is the new one much better? Hated Merc's as too blingy inside. The X3 wasn't even on the radar until I saw an ad for one in the dealer in Phytonic blue and thought, looks nice, why not? A test drive convinced me it was superior to an LR or Jag. 3 months and 2,500 miles on, no regrets - yet. Good luck with the search. |

There are trade offs for sure. Depending on her model I would say RR has nicer leather etc. But its not M40i engine that is for sure.

Great stuff I must admit I’ve been to bmw dozens of times now and the x3 is a lovely car,
My ideal colour is carbon black so that’s what I’m aiming at, I don’t like the glc And whilst the front of the evoque is nice I rly don’t like the rest of it although I like the speedo display on the new one and on the Audi Q5 but I don’t like the rest of the q5 with it’s weird fake exhaust looking trim! I do love the look of the x3 though |

Power aside......I've driven and ridden in several evoques and GLCs....just not the same quality and fit and finish of a nicely optioned X3.

Evoque is good looking. But I'd take the X3 10 times out of 10.
Off topic, but the new xq50 is a pretty good looking car.

I agree with the tech. BMW is far ahead with the tech and screen.
Never heard of tyre skipping and we own a GLC. We were going to trade it on a X3, as I prefer BMW's, but on test drive yesterday, my wife prefered her GLC still (interior, seats and quietness of drive), but did really like the outgoing X5 and new X5. |

I genuinly couldn’t live with that with the glc!
I don’t think the evoque would be big enough for me anyway, the boot on the x3 seems fairly generous! And from looking at the stats the 40d will be just as quick as my golf gti performance pack yet do more mpg (currently averaging 26mpg) Asked my dealer for a drive and they currently don’t have one so will see how things shape up! Only got 8-9 month to get the order in, currently looking at the options |

Have just confirmed a deal on X3 40d this morning, and have the dealerships general managers X4 40d all weekend. Just back from a 100 mile run about and all I can say is wow. Had previously driven the 30d and was very impressed but the performance from the 40d is something else and still to my mind very economical trip computer was saying over my varied road run it was achieving 38mpg. Roll on March 2019.
