Motor Trend: THE X3 M MAY BE THE FIRST BMW SUV TO GET A COMPETITION PACKAGE (4.20.201

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
http://www.motortrend.com/news/x3-m-...ition-package/

Quote:
Spanish automotive outlet Motor.es reports that BMW plans to offer the X3 M with a Competition Package similar to the ones found on the M3 and M5. So while the regular X3 M is said to make at least 450 hp, the Competition Package will reportedly boost that figure to 475 hp. With beefier brakes and a sportier suspension setup that includes upgraded springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars, the Competition Package should improve the X3 M's handling, as well.
I'm sure we all expected this, but good to see some more reporting on it.

Good read. I will come out and just say it. 450/475 HP is not going to cut it vs the competition. Needs to be at 475/500 HP. BMW has the experience and technology to do it. Look at what 600 HP and M-XDrive did for the F90 M5.

At the X3M CP price point, you will be able to get into a 580 HP Jaguar FPace SVR. If JLR can finally get their reliability gremlins squared away, it will be a serious performance competitor in segment.

don't doubt it for a second. The S58 will for sure cover at least 500HP - it has to.

Didn't realize Jaguar formally introduced the SVR to the media: https://media.jaguar.com/news/2018/0...nce-suv-design

Hope BMW re-thinks the 450HP (if those reports are accurate).

Also found it interesting - it appears the SVR has front and rear 'breathers'! Maybe they will be opened up after all in the X3M?

Someone here on the forum who has seen the final X3M design had mentioned that the SVR looks very similar to the X3M re vents and aggressiveness of said vents

And if it doesn't come with M mirrors at first, it will later. Did I just quote myself? Yes I did. Also answered my own question. So meta.

The most meta. I'm telling you, a year later the comp pack will come with single piece seats and M mirrors and all the first year adopters will be cursing the world. Kind of like the M2 comp thread that's on what? Like 60 pages now?

M2 Competition is not M2 + Comp Package. The difference from the old M2 is significant enough to justify all that noise.

X3 M will have 475hp as base, without CP.

The noise is exactly because the M2 Comp is so different. Almost like a completely new car. I feel bad for first year M2 owners. 1 LCI and complete overhaul in less than 3 years.

Still no fender lip flares like the X5M. Hope X3M gets them, otherwise it just looks like a M40i. Looks narrow.

dont see why it wouldnt do it on current x5m. the package is worth every penny. mild tune, muffler, shorter ride height is not something people want its something they neeeeed in an suv. o cant forget the back badge on the trunk (which on dark colored cars looks terrible) for that final touch that makes it worth that 5k extra lol. pointless car in general the x3 m40i was plenty.

Okay, so you buy a SUV for the extra ground clearance (why else would you get it?), then pay $5K to have it lowered?
