is that a microphone by the steering wheel? why not use the microphones built in? And can you switch between carplay and the stock displays or is it only carplay now?

Based on what I read in the F30 forum, this appears to be purely for Carplay only. The box sits between the OEM brains and the screen and it takes over when you activate it. The biggest limitation I see is that you need to switch the audio input to AUX for carplay audio otherwise you won't get audible prompts from waze if you're listening to FM radio or other OEM source (or vice-versa).
