17" winter wheel options for F25 X3
Well, it's time to put together a winter wheel/tire setup for my wife's new-to-us 2016 X3 28d. My preference is a 17" wheel/tire setup, for (1) ride comfort, (2) tire availability, and (3) cost.
But I know 17" wheels are a tight fit. Others have run the 17x7.5 style 130 wheels from the E53 X5 with success: However, the 17x75 style 57 wheels from the E53 X5 have the same offset and are (1) easier to find, (2) cheaper to buy, and (3) easier to clean: Has anyone tested the style 57 wheels on the F25? It probably depends on whether the barrels are shaped the same between the two. Thanks! |

Wouldn't a rim that has the same specs as the stock X3 17" rims work?
Or just find some used X3 rims? If I'm not mistaken offset is 32 for the 17" and the barrel sizes won't change much, and the brakes are very small on this car, I bet they wouldn't have clearance issues. |

For my winter setup I'm running 17" wheels off a 2008 335 XI, not sure what the model number is, but they look identical to my stock wheels except the spokes don't have the twist in them. The offset is close to the stock wheels. They should be readily available in the recycling yards.

Went with E53 X3 style 130, got a pristine set of 2006 take-offs from a forum member for $250. They actually look quite natural on the F25 X3!
The RFT Hakka R2s have a very aggressive tread pattern, and the tread blocks feel noticeably more pliable than the tread blocks on the RFT Pirelli Winter 210 Serie 2 on my F31 328d, which is a very good thing. The 17" wheels are indeed a tight fit (they clear the calipers by about 2mm) but they fit and drive great! The factory F25 TPMS sensors did not fit the style 130 wheels as-is. However, Garrett (garrett@shoptpms dot com) got me an alternate set of sensors with increased angular range, and they installed perfectly on the wheels and were recognized by the vehicle. Bring it on, winter! |

Not sure what the poster is running, but for a 17x7.5 wheel the ideal sizes are 225/60/17 and 245/60/17. Make sure the load index is at least 98. Personally I'd run the 245 unless most of my time was spent driving in snow and ice. Then I'd go with the narrower 225.
If the poster is running the R2, it's likely the 235/55/17 which is close enough to the factory sizing. |
