I have an X3_35i and a 135i, so both do have the 3.0T N55. I can't tell for sure but it seems your X3 is the N20? If so then yes that may be the difference - N55 holds the temp, N20 lowers it (or at least indicates as such).

Oil temperature rose to 109C, and coolant peaked 111C (photos attached).

Then I got back in the city where there's a traffic light just getting in.
Immediately the oil temperature started dropping, but the coolant temperature dropped from the ~105 it was on a highway to 84c. Oil stabilized at ~90.

Comparing the needle, it seems pretty accurate.

So to summarize:

Highway:
Coolant ~110c
Oil ~109c

City:
Coolant ~84c
Oil ~90c
I have the exact same results with the N55.

Highway @ 120km/h, oil is about 110°C (outside temps was around 15°C).

City is a bit lower, but we live in city , so we rarely get to full temp before getting to the place. everything is near.

In fact, we own the X3 since 7 months, and we only did 1500 km

Last one, with the 135i (N55).
Coolant temperature in the digital cluster oscillated around 106~109C and oil temperature is as shown (no digital measurement).

It always runs in the same temperature range regardless of condition (highway, city, etc.)

I was curious to see how it behave under the same conditions in my tests.

Now we know.

Extended drive with the X3 (35i / N55) last night. Fully warmed up on the highway then about 15 minutes in town at low speeds and some lights. Maintained that 235-ish F / 112C (per the dash gauge) the whole time, didn't waver.

You do realize the N20 has a faulty thermostat covered by an extended warranty and the telltale sign are low oil temps right? If you didn't buy your BMW at an auto auction you would have got the letter in the mail.

So why post about it? [To quote a board member] Just bring it to the BMW dealership and have them fix it

Are you salty because you can't afford to fix your auction car?

Sounds a lot like he's calling you a hypocrite. I disagree. I think you're just a high school troll.

You are terribly mistaken on both accounts. I'm old enough to have children in high school and I'm not a troll. I can't help that people don't like to be called out on their bullshit. Don't complain you bought an auction car, didn't repair it for 50k miles, then complain it's too expensive to fix then brag how you have more BMW's than anyone else.

The point of this forum is not to babysit autistic members, but lately it seems like that's all we got here now.
