Anyone with an MY20 car managed to find any reference in iD7 anywhere to Remote Software Updates and enabling/disabling it ?

Also disappointed that the "Hey BMW" function can't do stuff like set the climate control temperatures - at least when I tried it she game me some curt reply about unable to perform that function in this vehicle!

That's disappointing if that's the case, it was supposed to be one of the stand out functions of Personal Assistant.

It must be limited to vehicles with the new climate controls.

I'll give it another go tomorrow...I did try before I had the whole "hey BMW" thing active so was using the voice activation button on the steering wheel, but like you I was rather disappointed

I have the same issue with Remote Software Updates. I cannot find it, and I have been looking all over for it. Car is 1 week old, my ambient lights are not working, so need to take it back to the dealer. I will ask about the remote updates then.

I called "ConnectedDrive" support yesterday and they didn't fill me with confidence that they even knew. Went on some about "it's coming" and when I challenged them about it being in the manual, drivers guide app and having seen it in YouTube videos I was still met with the "it's coming" line.

Owners manual also states it should be under CAR, SETTINGS, GENERAL SETTINGS, REMOTE SOFTWARE UPGRADE. I do not have any reference to REMOTE SOFTWARE UPGRADE under GENERAL SETTINGS. We should (as far as I can tell) be able to CHECK FOR UPGRADE to.

I think the ConnectedDrive app is also supposed to have the Remote software upgrade function but I can't find it.

Even in the ConnectDrive portal, all my services are listed with their expiry dates and then under Recommended For This Vehicle there are 2 services, Wi-Fi hotspot and Remote a software Update, but selecting Remote Software update doesn't provide an option to add/enable but rather says the same as the manual...that it should be in iDrive, Car, Setting......

Time for a visit to dealer and ask them to show me where it is!

I'm wondering if the G01 and G02 have a half-baked version of OS7, seeing as they seem to lack some Personal Assistant Functions and Remote Software Updates.

Or it's (the remote software update) something that hasn't been "enabled" or "updated" on my car.... hoping some other recent UK MY20 M40i owners who've just taken delivery can check and confirm they are in the same position as me or that they have the remote software update (in which case I know I'm missing it)

MY20 G30 5 series has same limitations. Seems BMW has 2 versions of iDrive7. The full implementation as in the G20 3 series, G05 X5, etc. and a second iDrive7 lite that's in the MY20 G01, G02, G30, etc.

My assumption is the lite version is used in vehicles that haven't had their full electronics upgraded to what they're using in the other new models. For instance Drivers Assistance Plus is still used in the G01, 02, 30 where the G20 and G05 have Driver Assistance Pro. I'm figuring as models hit LCI, BMW will bring electronics forward to match the other models with full iDrive7.

I was also wondering why it's only Driver Assist Plus and not Pro, if it's all iDrive 7. I guess you are right that we might have a 'lite' version of iDrive7...

Just looked in the Drivers Guide and there is a long list of conditions that the system expects (vehicle parked, outside temperature, level ground, etc).

As with a recent question about one touch windows not working that turned out to be because the door was open, could it be that one of the long list of conditions isn't being met and so the idrive is being nannying and isn't offering the option?

As the manual says "BMW recommend upgrading as soon as an upgrade is available" I'd be disappointed if they then prevent you doing that!

I'll be checking again once the car is back from ceramic coating sometime next week. I also noted somewhere about the personal assistant and being able to set the temperature that "not all functions will be available until after the vehicle has been driven for the first time" or something to that effect.

I read the guide this morning and then checked my iD7 menu. Like all of you, the option for Remote Update is not there. I don't think we've got it.

Bollox....so if I want any upgrades I have to go to the stealer! How annoying. Will be taking this up with them as iD7 is supposed to have remote updates (software and maps)

Everyone's figured it out. No remote iD7 updates for pre-LCI (MY18-MY21) X3/4. You will get remote map updates for your specified area.
