Emergency call system malfunction Bimmer Coding or TCU replacment
Hi All, I have a 2019 X3 sDrive, and I am getting the "Emergency call system malfunction" error showing up in my instrument cluster. My car has 54K miles, 4K over the warranty expiration.
I bought BimmerLink, BimmerCode and OBDLink CX. The errors showing up in Bimmer Link is: "Error Accessing SIMM Card" (see pic). Researching this a bit, I tried replacing the battery, error came back next day after clearing. There is no evidence of water leakage. (se pic below) I tried to remove the TCU under the antenna to inspect it, but wasn't able to get the plugs to come off the TCU. Didn't want to break the wires, but looking at it under the roof disconnected from the antenna, I didnt see any water damage there either. So I went on to my next option, which was trying to code the error off my instrument/display panels. Again, after some online research, I found de-activating the following might turn off the error message on my displays: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER -> 3004 ERM_KONFIGURATION -> ST_ECAL_TIMEOUT -==>> nicht_aktiv ST_ECAL_ALIVE ==>> nicht_aktiv I tried that, but the next day, the errors came back on my displays. So, Im looking for some advice here on what I should do next. 1. TCU - I can't pull the plugs out to examine it. If I am able to get the wires off, should I try replacing it? Or, is there a SIMM in there I can re-seat? If I replace the whole unit, do I need to call BMW to get the SIMM registered? 2. Code the error off: I really dont care about the emergency call system, I always have my phone with me, and this feature is not guaranteed to last the lifetime of the car anyway. I would rather just get rid of the message and live without the emergency call system, as long as my satellite and GPS are working, that's all I need. Does anyone know how I can code off these messages. If anyone had this issue, and was able to fix it themselves, I would appreciate hearing how you did it. Thanks |

Solved! I was able to suppress the error message using Bimmer Code. I tried the following Bimmer Code changes, the first one didnt work, the second one did. I haven't seen the emergency call system malfunction on my dash anymore.
1. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (expert mode) 3004 ERM_KONFIGURATION ST_ECAL_TIMEOUT ST_ECAL_ALIVE 2. Instrument Cluster (Expert Mode) 300A CC_Konfiguration CC_MELDUNG_0299=> nicht_aktiv Nothing else has been affected AFAIK, only needed to set the system date/time. The "No Access to Internal SIM Card" is still present in Bimmer Link. But not showing up on the dash anymore. |

Why code off a feature that could save your life?
The battery can easily be replaced. There is an topic with pics how me and other did it. Job takes about 1 hour if you’re a real amateur like me. |

I have changed the battery, no luck, that was not what was wrong with mine. Took it to the dealer and they wanted 3k to replace the TCU. I don’t mind paying for repairs but I do not want to pay 3k for feature that has no purpose to the drivability or performance of the vehicle.
I’d much rather clear the warring that will not leave the dash no matter what you do. Why block the odometer with this warning!? |

Can confirm that using BimmerCode you can code away the “emergency call system malfunction” warning on the dash.
Instrument Cluster (Expert Mode) 300A CC_Konfiguration CC_MELDUNG_0299=> nicht_aktiv Did it today and the warning is gone and seems like everything else is working just fine. G01 2018 X3 M40i |
