sakhir orange interior goes with the following exterior colors very nicely in my opinion.

White, Black, and Grey, even Yas marina blue.

Also I'm probably the only one but not enough exterior differences between m40i and m for me.
This thing can't weigh 4,600+ pounds. According to the released information I could find, the weight is as follows (IF I am understanding this correctly):

Weight, unladen, to DIN/EU kg 1970 / 2045

The EU adds 75 kg to account for driver and some luggage.

So that roughly translates to 4343 (DIN) / 4508 (EU) in pounds. In comparison, that would only make it @50 pounds heavier than the smaller Stelvio QV. That would be a big win.

Also if we compare the M40i at 355 HP / 425 HP (wheels / crank), that's a difference of 70 HP! By the same scale, the 510 HP figure could possibly produce 580 HP in the competition model which is clearly FPACE SVR territory. This should translate to sub 3.5s to 60MPH to get some early indication what the performance will be like.

The M3/M4 guys should be smiling with the S58. It is certain to be better tuned in the flagship offerings followed by some extra juice for the X3M LCI.

Competition used to mean useful race inspired technology like holes in the seat backs. Now I dunno. BMW has lost its way.
You're talking about a 2+ ton SUV. Perhaps you've lost your way 😆

Guess we will have to wait and see on the weight. I posted earlier something from Bimmerpost showing DIN weight didn't directly translate to US curb weight and US specs showed a X5 US curb weight 250 lbs heavier than the conversion would have been.

Usually with M anything they have to add in weight they find a way to reduce it somewhere else, maybe that's not the case anymore. example the M550i weighs 4372 lbs while the M5 weighs 4370 lbs

Didn't you wedge some 305s or 315s on your 1M?

My recollection is that the car's (subjectively) twitchy nature and somewhat unpredictable rear end was sorted nicely by wider tires...

E30 M3 - shim oil pump , oil pan baffle needed
e36 M3 - safety wire oil pump
E46 M3 - bearings, oil pump , BMW extended warranty while in production ..
E90 M3 - replace bearings as PM? Etc
F80 M.. - crank Issue you mentioned
G80 M... ???

So... more than likely S58 will develop some sort of character flaw in the next 3-5 years ..

Don't sweat the technique ..

E36 Euro motor did not have this issue. On the other hand,

S50B30 euro - oil starvation on high lateral G applications due to single oil pickup(fixed at the release of S50B32)

S50B32 euro - con rod bolt stretching on sustained high rpm (7600 rpm)

So yeah. No motor without "issue" thus far.

A good bet would be between $1000 and $1200 depending on spec.

It's not an expensive X3. It shares very few commonalities with the X3 in terms of performance, suspension, cooling systems, fuel consumption, price, styling, and most importantly, the target demographic they are marketing it towards.

If you don't understand why the M line is set apart from the base models, you're completely missing the point.

I don't think it will sorry to say. It doesn't have the full LED dash that comes with ID7. Even the HVAC controls are the older type without the little digital display my X5 has.

Both are for soccer moms. Sad reality.

There is less distinction from M40i or some sht variation and M models these days. They are not trying hard enough or do they feel the need.

LOL that is a matter of opinion, and in that we are in agreement. I will, however, spend $90k(USD!) on a fully loaded G80 M3.

"Competition" SUV makes me chuckle. X3M is a fantastic looking vehicle and probably my favorite BMW SUV to date but I wish they developed a more appropriate name for that trim line. Having a hard time taking it seriously, regardless of how good the real-life performance is

Does it sound like the valves are closed to you? That is underwhelming, although I am sure it will sound much better in person warmed up and valves open.

I agree with what you're saying - but they're just following the new nomenclature that started with the new M5 and M2C.

Similar to the Porsche approach, but funnier (from the perspective that you've identified).

Nah that's too much. Maybe on launch date but more realistically it should be similar to M3 which is about $850 for 80k MSRP
