Wheels For M40i

Hey there,

I just wanted to start a quick thread on some ideas for wheels. Since I'm not too educated in this field, I was wondering what wheels or possibly the measurements I would need if I wanted a more staggered aggressive look?
I understand the 20' that comes with our car is:
F: 8.5J X 20 245/40/R20
R: 10J X 20 275/35/R20

It already comes staggered but for those of you that have the car now, I"m sure you know it is nothing obvious or aggressive enough if you know what I mean.
I kind of hope to aim for like an X6M look kind of feeling. Have em all fully buffed out in a nice staggered aggressive stance (but at the same time not so extreme that I will have to buy new tires after a year (camber wear, extreme wear/tear and/or any daily driving issues.)
With our tires being brand new I obviously will not plan on buying tires any time soon but I heard friends talk about how you can still get that look just depending on the measurements of your rim, maybe spacers too?
Let me know what kind of suggestions you guys got or possible solutions if I want that kind of results, thanks!

Hey there. If you want a more muscular look, then put spacers behind the wheels. They will give you a different offset and wider stance. Check out this thread. Notice the difference between the stock AW x3 and my SB with spacers. I really love the improved looks with those spacers!

Personally I wouldn't change the rims. I think the 20" wheels look very aggressive on my M40i. They're also unique to the M40i which is rare now a days with BMW. I would just put spacers on the wheels to give it a little more of an aggressive stance which I'm planning on doing with mine.

+1 Keep the 20's for the summer
Get 18 or 19 for the winter if you must (lighter of course)

Yeah i like the wheels it came with too and it would be stupid to buy new rims and/or tires for a brand new vehicle.. What r some of the pros/cons when adding spacers? Things to consider? I am not educated in spacers one bit. Since it is the most financially smart way to get the most that I want, this is prob my decision in the end too

There aren't really any downsides. You just need to make sure you buy a good quality set and not a cheap set because they can crack. I know H&R makes a good set and I'm sure other members of the forum will give you other recommendations. I'm looking to do 10mm in the front and 12mm in the back.

Noo i havent, but i prob dont plan on lowering it at all. If so, it would just contradict myself from getting this cross over, I wouldve prob chosen a 440 or 340 instead. I prefer the suv looks (with the kids) but just hope to obtain amore aggressive stance

I got a couple pics on this cayenne that lives in my building.. I took a closer look at the tires and they r only 275/45R20 all around, extremely similar to ours.. I just wanted to understand the main reason behind it how come these 20s look sooo big on their car? How come its so flush like that? Could the wheels be much wider than ours thats why?

Thicker sidewalls and less wheel gap, along with what I assume are spacers installed to move out the wheels to be flush with the fender. Check for wheel spacers the next time you're in the garage. I believe the X4 20's are P245/40R20 Fr and P275/35R20 rear.

Porsche tends to be the most aggressive of the German automakers with their wheel gaps and spacing, and I agree it makes a big difference.

Spacers are a great visual trick. They push the tires outward which has the effect of visually narrowing the wheel gap between the tire and fender as well as offering a more aggressive look. It's why a lot of folks install them. Generally little to no noticeable difference in ride or handling characteristics.

Recommend Vossen

Put on 20" Vossen CVT wheels and 3,5 cm lowering springs the other day. Good choice. Vossen has many good options for X4.

I agree as well. I love the 310M wheels. I don't like the look of the 680M wheels nearly as much.

When I received my x4 35i I was very pleased to see that the darker colour of the 310s was almost matching the Sophisto Grey of the car. This is why I kept them with the m40i
