Brand new X3 30D Msport no option for CarPlay

Hi all.

I just picked up my brand new X3 30D Msport today and one of the things I was looking forward to was CarPlay but it's not showing in the store for me.

I spoke to the BMW Connected technical team and they said the car needs enhanced wireless bluetooth or something. Even though the brochure clearly states the Msport has CarPlay preparation.

Any ideas if this is something that can be coded?

You need the wifi antenna from factory for Carplay to be available I’m afraid. I just bought Carplay cheap off eBay.

I believe that with the CarPlay preparation you should have the wifi antenna and therefore the possibility to activate it from Connected drive store. Are you sure, you have it? Try some VIN decoder to find out (mdecode.com for example).

Is this a MY2020? I thought CarPlay preparation was standard.

Can you please share the link for the eBay CarPlay you bought?

Search the Forum.
You can install the WiFi Antenna yourself. DIY after market.
After that, you can subscibe to Carplay or rip a code off e-bay.

It's a build date of April 2019.

It's very frustrating as it now seems I need a wifi adapter before I can get it coded. Why are BMW so awkward. It should have it from the factory but it doesn't for some reason.

You don't need any additional equipment, although in that case the reception of wifi would not be great. Your phone than has to be in the area of cupholders or closer to the HU for a successful connection. For better coverage yes, you will have to add a wifi antenna. I would try it without it if it works for you. You can still add the antenna a later (or save some money a hassle with removing the head unit).

I had heard this elsewhere so it's good to hear it again.

Might take a punt and buy a download.

Hi just got mine aswell and no carplay anything before July Build date doesn't have the preparation. i've installed the antenna off of ebay and now i'm just trying to find someone to code it. Bought one off ebay that was supposed to do it for my firmware but it bricked the unit and I had to reset it using esys as the vendor didn't have a clue how to get it back.

Simon at Bavarian Coding does it for £150, absolutely risk free and he updates all the car’s firmware before doing it. Plus free recoding if BMW ever wipe it.

Took me about 20mins from start to finish worse bit is the first pull on the dash! Apart from that it all came apart pretty easy and more importantly back together again

I contacted him but he has to do it locally and he couldn’t really be any further from me as I’m up in Newcastle!

Did you do the usb stick method, or enet cable?

I did enet cable and it bricked the hu first time, turns out it was due to weak wifi, moved our router closer to the car and it worked perfectly.

I used the ENET cable, even tried running a cable from the router into the laptop and it still failed. It always got to the coding stage then just hung. Tempted by FSCMap com uses different software.
